Hello folks.
I bought a 2007 1.9 multijet high-roof last year. (Only 33k on it at the time!)
It had a handle that was held on with cable ties. I tried to fix it up with various adhesives but it didn't stay. So I went to the scrap yard and got a used handle. A friend fitted it because I'm not great with cars and he's a kind of mechanic.
After he fitted the handle it seemed all good, until a few days later I realised that the door was no longer able to lock.
Said friend and I looked at the door, had a look at the handle, heard the noise of the central locking in the door and we can feel the lock when we press the keyfob, but the door just doesn't lock.
The only thing I can think of is that when I got the car last year, there was a frequent 'door not closed' symbol flashing on the dash for that door. A mechanic made the door close more securely by tightening the door up.
For a month my car has essentially been unlocked, but it's parked within distance of my flat and it's safe round here so I'm not worried.
But do you have any ideas what on earth the problem could be? I must say that my friend, the kind of mechanic, isn't all that competent (he merely buys and sells cars) so perhaps it's something silly that we're not thinking of.
Thanks for any help you can give!
