My inside rear anti-roll bar bushes are shot.. the bar has about a 5mm free movement up and down. so it creaks and clunks every time the rear wheels go over a bump or pot hole..

I drive mostly in Staffordshire.. which has arguably some of the worst roads in the country.. So sounds like back end is falling off all the time.

Its worse when it gets wet then I get a loud thunk every time I change direction. :(

Been to Fiat dealer because normal car spars dealers do not list the inner anti-roll bar bushes for sale.

The Fiat Dealers say I have to replace the whole anti roll bar!

Cost nearly £200 inc VAT!!!! :bang:

Any body got a source of inner rear anti-roll bar bushes?

i have been told that my anti roll bushes are worn and i get the same clunk when going over a bump sorry cant help with supplier of bushes as have only had my car for 3 wks so will be watching this space..

Yes I have done the same but they are all front bushes and outside ones at that.

I (we by the sound of it) need inside rear bushes..

They are a pain to get at as well requiring the fuel tank to be taken off to get at them.. :(

Hi,if you have access to garage equipment or help of a competent mechanic there is a repair I have done on several Doblos to save buying a new bar,as bushs aren't available as clamp plates holding bushs in place are spot welded together.
As there is usually not a lot wrong with bushs, just excess play caused by slight wear of the bushs, I have removed bar and drilled out spot welds on clamps, removed slithers of rubber where bush is naturally split to fit onto bar, this allows bush to hold bar securely, there is now a gap between bush and clamps,I usually put 3 rings of weld on the inside of clamp plates and cool, when clamped now, the welds grip the bushs tightening them and securing them from moving,re spot weld clamps and cool quickly so not to damage bushs, touch up with a dab of paint to avoid rusting and refit bar. New a-roll bar drop links are available pattern cheaply, so I always replace when doing bar.
This is only work to be carried out by someone competent to complete repair safely.
Hope this helps, nearly zero parts cost and some I've done, have done at least 60k since and still ok,John. (Copied from my previous reply on this issue)

I have stripped down one side today.

For an 08 Doblo I do not think the clamp is welded there are 2 bolts that go through it one is easy to remove 17mm but the rear one is a very low profile 17mm and without removing the exhaust I cannot get a socket or spanner to hold onto it well enough to get it undone.

The Elearn horrible manual seems to indicate they are bolt together as well.

If I remove the anti-roll bar completely then I will be able to get the second bolt undone.. then replace the rubber bush. Yay!

It looks identical to the Fiat Bravia inboard front bush.. although I am not sure of the diameter of the anti-roll bar used on the Bravia.. the Doblo is 19mm. Asking sellers on ebay.

If I cannot find a suitable replacement bush then I intend packing out the existing bush with silicone gasket sealant which is a horrible bodge I know but it might stop it clicking and rattling. ;)

Will keep you posted how I get on. ;)

anyobe know the size of bushes I have a few suppliers that can supply uprated D bushes for 4WD might be an idea

If anyone has roll bars dimensions they are only about a fiver each in poly

Had a good look at the bush last week.

Its not a D shape but more like this one on ebay 300456365207

However these have a bar diameter of 22mm the bar on the Doblo is 19mm.. Boo!

On close inspection what seems to be the problem is not the hole in the middle wearing out as you would expect but the whole bush shrinking and rattling about in its mounting!

I have injected some Wynns gasket maker into the gap between the sides of the rubber bush and the bracket that holds it.. and having left it 24 hours to set I can report an improvement! I was only able to get at one side (under the exhaust) the other side is above the fuel tank! :( so that one will have to wait for another day.

The silicone gasket stuff I used is low modulus (meaning its stays soft) by preference I would like to use something that cures as hard as the original rubber.

This is unlikely to be available however, so I'm buying a tube of this stuff which looks like it should do the job. ;) its high Modulous and resistant to salt water, oil and temperature to 200+ degrees C so is as close to perfect as I'm likely to find on ebay.

Ebay item 230655522022

I'll let you know how I get on ..

No nothing like any of them..

More like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300456365207

But with 19mm inside diameter.

I think, but I did not totally remove the clamp that is supposed to grip the bush. One of the bolts was very rusted and impossible to remove in situ.

I have no idea if these are even close to being the right size on the outside..

All I know its the whole bush that has shrunk in its holder which is thumping about.. I intend stripping the whole anti-roll bar off and filling the gaps which now exist with high modulus (harder when cured) silicon adhesive.

I will bolt it all back in position before its finished its cure, so it will set in the correct alignment.

This should stop all slack movement and give me back a nice thump free ride. ;) and all for the cost of a tube of silicon which is a lot cheaper than buying new bushes.

Win Win.. it dose not happen often but when it dose its nice :)

Useful link!

I need to replace or at least service the rear leaf spring suspension bushes as well so I'll strip one out and measure it up if I find a suitable replacement I'll put it in a new thread..

Thanks. ;)

No I don't think they look anything like them..

I have not taken a bush out of its mounting yet so not sure exactly what they look like but suspect they are oval with a flange rather than a "D" shape.

I have my 6 monthly Taxi MOT due soon so I will see what they think. I do not think they will fail it on the amount of slack I have now.. the injected Silicone gasket maker has done a good job on the off side. ;)

I will have a look at my rear springs on Wednesday if the weather is good, measure them up and take photo's etc.. ;)

I think they might get away with a good greasing and clean-up.. otherwise I'll get some poly-bush replacements and let you know how I get on. (y)
