Here goes, prevoiusly discussed by other people, the wiper linkeage has given away, elastic bands last for a while, any body know how to fix it, or should I just drill it and use a bolt or split pin?

Look forward to hearing from you all, oh the last doblo It had did two hundred and eighty nine thousand miles on the clock, it died.

It was a 1.9JTDELX car.

Shame about the wipers.

Graeme.

hi there similer probs with my mk2 punto only option is to renew the linkage as temp repairs dont work in the long run

Mine had to be replaced a couple of months ago too. Whole set; motor and linkages. Suddenly I just had a single wiper working, at night, at work, fortunately in front of me, but...very annoying! And expensive.

Apparently this is one of the Doblo's weaknesses.

The dealer was brilliant though and did it on the spot the next morning..

I repaired mine using little ball joints purchased from an engineering firm. They screw onto a stud or bolt, like a track rod end. I had to cut off the old socket section from the pressed steel arm and weld a bolt in its place then screw the new balljoint plus a locknut onto the bolt. The old ball section can be knocked out using a punch and the new joint attached with a bolt and nuts. I did post a message about this at the time with photos.

not exactly a weakness...any moving mechanical part will wear. However fiat like ford (whose cars suffered very badly from this) should bring out a linkage repair kit.

Yeah ok but:

My Iveco is still using what appears to be an identical type of mechanism at 332,000 miles. I suspect its the quality of parts used on the Dobbin version that are the main problem.

Yeah but, ...I agree.

I didn't know Fords have the same problem, but it must be possible to design out the weakness, surely?
I know of many cars which are both high in miles and elderly and have never had wiper problems.
A repair kit to save having to replace the whole, expensive, package would be a good start though.

If future Fiat models have reliable mechanisms I'll believe that Fiat has learnt a lesson and addressed it.

Ford released a linkage kit....was a good seller aswell;)

I found the thread about the linkage repair. At the time I had made a cockup due to getting the different arms mixed up but I did the job again and it's still going strong. One of the problems on mine was always that the sweep was too great ie the wipers try to go off the edge of the screen at both extremities of movement. I think this introduces extra inertia at the start of each sweep. I also have endless electrical problems with the wipers. sometimes they even come on when switched off:

IVe had both linkages break on my doblo.

What i did was made a small strip from 2mm thick sheet aluminium and bent it to make a bracket that i screwed onto the horizontal linkage , coming up and over the vertical linkage arm, to stop the ball joint seperating. done 80,000 miles since and no further problems

If it,s the plastic cup thats worn away I bought one from a fiat dealer opened hole slightly and popped it in.
It,s not a doblo part but it fitted and only cost about a quid(y)
that was 2 yeaars ago and still working

and does anybody know, can I use linkage from any other fiat? or it fits only from doblo? my friend has a fiat junkyard,so if it fits,I would gladly buy it frome him, than new, because new comes with motor, and it is pretty expensive for me :)
