Off Side Front Shock Absorber

My OSF front shock absorber is leaking and the various local garage chains are having their customary difficulty in finding the correct part number for a replacement.

Apparently only the NSF is listed and some claim them to be reversable, others aren't so sure.

Can anyone shed any light?

I've been quoted 200 to change the pair by one garage if he can get the correct parts, not that it looks all that tricky to change.

Has anyone changed them and was it particularly tricky?

Thanks Telegraph.

A quick search on ebay and amazon has thrown up multiple sellers at about 50 or thereabouts. Quite a long way from the supply and fit of 120 to 150 each I've been quoted so far.

Is removing the old one especially tricky?

Re: Off Side Front Shock Absorber

Another search has thrown up mister-auto.co.uk who are quoting 37 / side for Monroe parts.

Hi Brian- If you are doing it yourself, you will probably have to remove the spring as well.
Top tip from my mechanic after he changed my broken spring is to spend a bit of time cleaning surface rust off the spring, treat any areas of pitted rust with rust treatment and give the whole spring a coat of stone chip paint. I wont go into why the springs break at the top and bottom coil again( see it in my other posts) but its the pitting which weakens the spring so dealing with this while it is off the car is a really good idea

Re: Off Side Front Shock Absorber

I've ordered a pair of Monroes and we'll see if they're any good.

One of my neighbours who is a mechanic to trade is going to give me a hand / do it for me so it should be fine.

Fingers crossed that there isn't anything else broken in there and the shocks themselves are the correct things.

Re: Off Side Front Shock Absorber

That's the shocks changed. I got Monroes from mister auto for 37 each with free next day delivery.

The front droplinks needed changed as well and they were 18.62 from ECP.

The pads needed changing so I tried the Eicher ones from ECP but I'm really not sure about them. I'll give it a week or two and see how they do.
