Re Towing

Waiting my turn at the doc’s yesterday & flicking thro a CaravanClub mag. Apparently the Towcar of the Year is the VW Jetta Sport 2.0TDI DSG.

I went to a VW auction in Dec & there was a couple of Jetta’s in the 120 (or so) Audi, Skoda, SEAT, & VW cars that went thro while I was there. Both were 58plate 1.9 – one went for £5.0K & the other £6.6K.

+1...trouble is, what do you replace a Croma with..? What is the next "underrated bargain of the decade"?

If only Fiat UK would bring the Croma back here, the cost of tooling would be nil...the interior on the new Croma hasn't changed. The problem would be pricing it under Koren cars

And I also know where 2 of the 2.4 Prestigio's are; 2 friends of mine who still work at the Fiat dealership I worked at years ago own them! So at least these will be being looked after well.

What about a Citroen C6? It's big, comfortable and disregarded, just like the Croma!!

You are a braver man than me Gungadin. When I had the alternator changed I asked the autoelectrician if there were any cars out there now that are in any degree reliable re the electrics, computers etc.

Anything Japanese was the answer, then maybe Mercs, but not beemers or VW's. "Which are the worst?" I asked.

Peugeot 308's and then anything Citroen.

Everybody goes on about bad electrics and poor reliability with Fiats, but in my experiences this is not so; I run a business and during the last 6 years have run 1 Fiat Ducato & 2 Citroen Relays with A 3RD Relay on order ( with the exception of the engines & body badges they are the same vehicles) the older 2 have done. or did over 100,000 miles in 3 years and not 1 visited a dealer for anything other than services or in the case of the 1st Relay 2 warranty recalls.
They have been totally reliable and (almost) fault free! The main indicator, wiper & cruise control switches and multi function menu are all from the Croma! and the electrics are Fiat Sourced.
so Im my experience I can give these nothing but the full praise they deserve, I know people with Merc Sprinters that have had new engines fitted under warranty and VW's having numerous faults too.
The problem is that everyone perceives Fiat to be unreliable and treats them so.

Any vehicle that is over 6yrs old will now be wearing parts out and this is something that we must all expect.
