I see that the auto-dimming mirror and auto wipers were options on the Croma when new. I really liked these features on a previous car.

Does anyone know how feasible it would be to add this now? If it's just a case of plugging in a new mirror then it might be worth it (depending how horrible Fiat UK's price is).

I'm guessing the two options are combined, as they both rely on having electronics within the mirror.

I bought a used one from american ebay off a USA car cost me 15$. Took 1 hour to pull the wires and connect to Croma's wiring. The biggest problem was the connecting the mirror to the Croma's socket. I found a guy with a lathe who made a custom plastic ball socket copy from the factory mirror. This works well but there is a slight vibration at higher speeds however cannot bit the price. I would certainly reccomend. Here is a photo:

Auto wiper usually require a rain sensor that is a part of the windshield and some relays so a bit more expensive and involves changing the windshield.

Thanks for all that info. I was hoping to get the "proper" one somehow. My hope would be that the car's all set up to take one, and you only need to swap the mirror. There can't be that much to it, as it was available as an option.

My previous car (Seat) had a mount for the mirror onto the windscreen which incorporated the optical sensor for the wipers. The automatic mode was just instead of the intermittent one.

It's a long shot, but I hope this is the case. I do know that on the previous Seat Leon you could add cruise control just by replacing the indicator stalk with one that included the cruise control switch - the ECU contains all the functionality needed, and just needs to see the switch to recognise that this feature has been added, and enable that part of the software. It makes sense, as then there is just one version of the software for all versions of the car - it would be a nightmare at the factory otherwise.

My hope is that the auto wipers on a Croma are a similar story. All knowledge appreciated!

Here's a photo of one fitted - it's a big lump of a mirror incorporating all the electronics.

My hope is that you plug this thing in and it all just works...

Yes that's the factory one, with the auto wipers, there is also one with just the dimming mirror, but with the one above I think the rain sensor is in the glass, not the enclosure, maybe I'm wrong. If you could find a high end Croma being stripped, this would be your best bet. However it's not plug and play, mine is Emotion package (the highest in Italy equivalent of Eleganza and I had to pull the wires myself). Pulling the wires is really not that hard, and I only have marginal knowledge of auto electronics.

This is back from when I was dealing with it and I think it is a jack for blue and me but it may turn out to be what you need for plug and play.

Thanks, looks interesting. Worth keeping an eye out for one then.

Doesn't the Croma pre-date Blue&Me? If so then it must be specifically for the posh mirror.

If anyone's got access to parts prices I'd be very interested in knowing the price - but I bet it's £100s.

I had a previous car with auto wipers and got a new windscreen once - I don't think it was a big issue. It does look like the screen intended for it just has a blacked-out area to make it look tidy from the outside (minus a window for the sensor). Nothing that couldn't be sorted with some neat black paint. Perhaps there's a lens for it in the proper screen though.
