Try the Coupe section ans also FCCUK

Although lag is a fact on any turbo car, its impossible to get perfect (read totally seamless) boost as compromises need to be made on charger selection and fuelling and spark retard etc.... Only way you'll get perfect lag is really finely tune your turbo setup for top end and stick on a supercharger for bottom end pull...

Hum, I seem to remember the turbo spooled up at 2500rpm and got going at 3250-3500rpm, but that's from a hazy memory. If that is right you might have a manifold leek or someone put a bigger turbo in it at some point and never finished the job. If you're serious about this car go on the FCCUK forum but also find a decent fiat coupe near you and have them do a decent service/check over.

Mine starts to really kick at about 3250RPM, by 3500 I'm pushed into the seat. There are reasons why it isn't pulling as it should, this has been asked on Fccuk before. Do a search!

The fact it kicks at 3250rpm is not lag, it's boost threshold. Once you are above this point the time delay between planting your foot and the car taking off is lag. The boost threshold will be lower on a car with a smaller turbo.
The 16VT and the 20VT have little lag, but the 20Vt has a lower boost threshold.

i actually dont mind the lag, it's nice to feel the kick of the turbo and its nice for it to not be too fast on the low revs for just idle motoring which lets face it, is a part of life

The only time they really catch you out is if you try and pull away with too few revs, I especially noticed this on my 16VT when it was cold. You also sometimes need to plan overtakes so that the turbo is spinning before you make your manouvre.

Turbo's are great when they are on boost, but crap when they are not. Given the choice I would probably rather have a larger normally aspirated engine TBH, although turbo's are easier to tune.

I sold my 3 litre Alfa GTV and bought an Evo 6 and I wished I hadn't. The evo was ultimatley quicker, but the Alfa was far easier to drive, and just as fast 90% of the time.

If you think a 16Vt has turbo lag you should drive an Evo... I don't regret buying it as such, but maybe I was just expecting it to be better than it was. Especially considering all the hype that surrounds them. I replaced it with a TVR Griffith 500, and that was far more fun, and a LOT quicker, though was tricky in the wet (and dry sometimes).

cant believe they closed the blackpool TVR factory, i went on the tour there as a kid my dad took me with the porsche owners club

i remember 3 of the guys placing orders right there and there was only like 10 of em with us. it was a cool experience

i did a straight swap for my coop, trading in my lotus eclat - that could be pretty tricky in the wet too!

just to add, how amazing the coop is in the wet

fwd with tc keeps it hangin on

before my coop i always thought fwd sports cars was a bit backwards but it makes sense in an odd way

what did you think of the 4wd system on le evo?

I think the coop's pretty pants in the wet  It just spins and understeers. You can combat this by being gentle with the steering and accelerator, but on the whole it's not designed for rainy days!

I always found my COupe gripped well both in the wet and the dry. The viscodrive kept both front wheels in traction, and you wouldn't get the inside wheel lifting and spinning on a tight corner.
Only problem was that when the power you were using exceeded the grip available, the viscodrive would then ensure both front wheels span, giving mega-understeer, then lift off and it would snap back to gripping quite suddenly.
You had to provoke it to get it to do that though.
Or perhaps I wasn't driving hard enough? :p
