Flash Drop Down Navigation

Right then, probably something really simple to do but just wondered if anyone could give me a hand!

I've got a website which has a drop down navigation bar which goes horizontally across the top of the page. It also has the company name at the top etc. It's a flash file.

I need this to feature on all of the pages in the same place. Currently, the way I have been doing this has been to copy the navigation bar into the individual pages which is a pain because the website is now up to some 80 pages and rapidly expanding. that means that every time i update it there's alot of copying and pasting to do!!

Just wondered if anyone knew of a way to insert the navigation bar into some form of frames setup so if i updated the navigation bar it would update all of the pages at the same time.

I know how to create frames but my trouble is if I create a frame that's vertically big enough to fit the entire drop down menu then I will have a big white space below the navigation bar and above the actual page content. This is why currently all of my pages are full flash pages instead of html pages with a flash navigation bar

Any help would be greatly appreciated. The website is http://www.csnuk.com/csnfs Some of you may have seen this before because I haven't updated it to it's current state yet but you'll be able to see the problem i'm describing i'm sure!

Thanks

Re: Flash Drop Down Navigation

frames is a pig because of overlay permissions, if you are using .asp or .php you can include it as part of the base code to generate the page

not aware of many sites that use frames anymore simply because they are just so much work for so little gained!

hmm, so asp or php is the best way to go then?

how would i go about integrating something into the base code then? and would i be able to get the drop downs to overlap the content page do you think?

Re: Flash Drop Down Navigation

yeah that's the type of menu i'm after. It's just i've already coded mine in flash. Would I be best to recode in Java then in ur opinion?

I wouldn't bother re-coding the menu, I'd move from .html to .asp or .php if your webserver supports them (usually one or the other is supported, if it's .asp I can help, if its .php you might want to find someone with more experience)

Re: Flash Drop Down Navigation

well that would be the easiest option if it saves me recreating the menu!!

I know both asp and php are supported so i may go with asp as it's the newer standard

Re: Flash Drop Down Navigation

It's not a newer standard, it's just yet another fad language I think, I've been doing VB and asp for aaaages so I can show you how to use it if youd like but I'm about to vanish for about 4 hours lol
