I am selling my 1996 Fiat Punto 90 ELX. I’ve initially bought the car as advertised on FF in May 2021 to use as a temporary retro daily, but ended up liking it too much :) Unfortunately I’m moving house and losing the garage, so I need to reduce number of cars I own. I am the third (!) owner and bought it from an old lady who owned it since 1998. It was garaged and serviced yearly with stamps and invoices to back it up. MOT until May 2023,~61,000 miles.

The car is in fantastic original condition for the age. There is no sign of previous welding, virtually no corrosion underneath (sills, floor, arches, etc) and the interior is great too. All electrics work (inc. sunroof), and there are no mechanical or structural issues. Cosmetically it has few scratches and dents on the bumpers and doors, but nothing major. Since buying, I have had the cambelt, drive belt, rocker cover gasket and downpipe replaced by a local specialist garage. I have also replaced plugs, power steering oil, coolant and thermostat, gear oil, air filter and have just done an oil service. I have also fitted 4x all season Michelin CrossClimate tyres (in correct 175/60 R14 size) and had the car rustproofed by Krown in Tipton (of HubNut fame). I have a set of front Brembo rotors and pads, that I will include in the sale price as they are next on the list of jobs.

The known issues with the car are:
  • front springs are intact but corroded (MOT advisory), and the shocks are quite bouncy, so they could do with replacing
  • rear drums got sprayed with rustproofing oil and are not very strong anymore (MOT advisory), so they would need to be taken apart and cleaned
  • both rear quarters have been scraped, and there is surface corrosion on the OSR side, it needs sanding down and repainting while there is still metal left
  • driver seat piping has split (see photos)
  • the rear boot has some surface corrosion around the lock barrel
  • rear washer pipe is blocked somewhere inside the car, as the wiper works fine, I left it for now
That’s it. Not sure how to price it so open to discuss. I’d like for it to go to someone who will restore and ideally take it to the Festival of the Unexceptional next year, as this was my ultimate goal! I live in Basingstoke and am fairly flexible on viewings etc.
