just put the gearbox back in my daughters car after it had new differential bearings fitted.i asked the shop to check the rest out as it had 3rd and 4th gear selection difficulty.any,i test drove it and find 3rd difficult to select and fourth almost impossible, they don't crunch or grind,it's just i can't select the gear at all,it just does'nt go in.the rest of the gears go in fine.any ideas as to what the problem is:confused: ....oh yes,it has a new clutch as well:)

Might be worth trying some fresh gearbox oil, though I have no idea how to do that on 'centos, as I've not needed to change it.

it's already got new oil in it.best way to describe how it feels when i try to get it in gear,is that it feels like there is no gear there,it just don't go in

I'd check:

-Correct attachment of the gearbox cables. Are the sockets fully inserted in the balls? Are the retaining clips in place (both ends). It may be worthwhile having someone work the gearlever while you peek under the bonnet.

-Wear in the gearlever linkeage/box (the plastic box the lever goes into) itself.

-Routing of the cables.

-Clutch adjustment.

ok,we've had a thorough look over things, the clutch is adjusted fine and is new, can't really see much play in any linkage, but one thing we've noticed is that the gate positioning for 3rd and 4th seems to be wrong,it seems to be close to 5th and reverse when selecting, but they do engage if you take your time to find them...hope that makes sense:confused:
