Hey I've got a prob wi ma 94 Cinq Sporting

I was about to change the gear knob for ma new Momo one and have never done this before but decided to go for it anyways. So I took off the boot leather and couldn't see any screws or anything except one nut that went through to what I now no is the 'reverse tension cable ' or something which my mate attempted to unscrew but it didn't seem to move at all.

Well I couldn't see anyway to do it so I put the boot leather back on and then put the gearstick through the gears and found that when pushing it down to go into reverse it didn't come back up again without pulling it up

I'm away to spray some WD-40 on it and hope it helps

So the question is has this happened to anyone else and does anyone know how to sort it? (I'm goin back to Halfords 2moro to get them to fit it for me)

Cheers

yeah I was told that in styling but the halfords guy said no so I'm goin to get him to try n fit it and then kick his ass when he cant and I need to wait another week for the adaptor

But what I'm needing help with is my gearstick not returning back up to it's normal postion

The WD-40 helped still sticks tho but slides back up slowly

how do you actually get the original fiat gear knob off? ive tired to unscrew it but that doesnt seem to work as its stuck fast (then again it might not be a screw one) so any ideas would be nice!

its brute force and twisting AFAIK if you have power then just heat it with a hair dryer first and that should help,as for the stickyness null n void i would make sure that with you're fettling you've maybe twisted the reverse unit slightly or something like that

It's seems back to normal now dont think it came right up in the first place but it goes far enough that I dont need to pull it up anyways.

I was away to ask the same question Bushboy, the Halfords guy's say it needs sawn off but I dont want to do that incase I cant get my new one on.

I plan to cut the leather off the old one then see if theres anyway to do it without sawing if not then I'l go to halfords carpark, saw it off and if the new one doesn't go on I'll kick some ass :)

Oh and custard boy how are you getting a hair dryer to work in your car???

Why is the adaptor needed? I get the idea it is to make the gearknob fit but the gearknob comes with parts to get it to fit
