been speaking to a friend that wants to buy a cinq. the one that he is looking at had apparently blown a core plug  he has been told by the owner that is is on the engine block above the fly wheel but you need to remove the gear box to get to it????

we have never heard of it!

can any one shed some light on this?

thanks (y)

Yep.

There is a core plug on the block where he says, if it's gone you'll need the 'box off to fix it.

'Bout 3" diameter thing, bit of tin pressed into a hole. If it's rusted out through lack of antifreeze, chances are the engine internal waterways and likely the head gasket are on the way out.

Yes,I can confirm this, gearbox off job as ive had a garage replace all of the core plugs for me. (*cough* f*****g cars! *cough* :D )

Worth taking the time to replace the clutch too if it needs it whilst the 'box is off, saves the hassle later and they are not too expensive ;)

(if youre wondering what they do they are there as a safety feature should the coolant freeze up,so it just pops out a plug or two rather than crack the engine).

Think thats got to be the most informative post ive ever made, lol
