hay everyone, so i dont normally venture into this part of the forum but my mate is looking at buying a cinq undecided on sporting or stanard yet but i think he will get a sporting.

what sort of price should he been looking at?

and as i'm going to be viewing with him can you give me any spots to check on, are the wheel arches as bad as the uno?

Cheers,
Ryan Edge

Wheel arches should have liners in keep the crap out :)

Check the bottom corners of the windscreen (particularly the drivers side) for rust under the paint.

Make sure engine runs smoothly, injector light comes on then goes off again, fan kicks in at proper temperature, look for oil/coolant leaks.

Check stiffness of the clutch, the synchros on the gearbox, check you can get reverse and all gears etc

Think thats all i can remember at the moment :)

The centos are galvanised so shouldn't be as bad as the Uno. The boot floors can go as can the windscreen wiper panel. My 1993 one had wheetabix behind the wheel arch protector, but it has had a hard life.
Read the stickies on here for all the gen on what to look for mechanical wise.

Price, between £26 and £1000 depending on year spec and condition.

Cheers

so £1500 is very overpriced for a 1.1 sporting 1996?

Extremely overpriced IMO. That would buy my Cinq 3 times over and have plenty of change :)

yes but is it standard? if its got a 1242 conversion fully kitted the works then it probably aint overpriced

budget as said above is £0 (dont want to miss out the freebies Rally cinq ;) ) - £1000 but depending on spec could be worth stretching to £1400

depends on insurance deal as well the sportings i find majorly dearer to insure than the 899s but i feel them to be a far better car (have owned both) so its worth it really

you can buy many cinqs cheap as said above BUT not all people are lucky at the car game its like the lottery you can get a bargain but you can also get a lemon if your not careful

check rear inner arches for rust same with inside of boot
obvious but some people forget check for mayonaise in the oil cap this sometimes indicates head gasket but not always

Depending on the miles, it would be an advantage if it has had it's headgasket done already. Unless it's only done like 40k or less miles. Although Ryan, that's only if it has been well looked after.

Cambelt isn't essential (as it is a 'safe' engine), but would save your mate a few quid in the long run.

As with all 2nd hand cars FSH is very useful.

Parkers reckon £450 for a good car in a private sale and roughly £550 - £600at a dealer - http://www.parkers.co.uk/pricing/us...13&model=213&plate=55&pay=false&buyorsell=buy

I know Glass's Guide is around this as well. £1600 is way too much for a standard Sporting. Alroy sold his modded Sei for around 1600 - 1800 IIRC. Custard bought his turbo for what was it - 1K? I don't think Aaron paid much more than this for his red turbo.

And I wouldn't take FSH as the be all and end all. If a car had FSH and the engine looked like it hadn't been touched all its life, I would be walking away :)
