Randomman said:yes it might be
But The mccrich chip can give a slight flat spot on a cold engine
Far better when warm
arc said:a universal.. chip, or lambda?
when you notice the flat spot, hot or cold engine. If its cold, get used to it - its what they do. If its hot, it could be a lambda or map fault. Don't buy a universal lambda, get a proper bosch one
arc said:my car went through 2 lambdas, then finally got a proper bosch one and it then it stopped throwing up lambda errrors
Randomman said:And how do you go about fitting one? I may have to try a new one if a remap doesnt cure the unsteady idle
philbo said:had same prob with mine. no red light but changed the lambda sensor and the flat spot went away. went to motor factors and there was a universal one or a pattern one made by ngk. i got the ngk one (cant remember what they call them - nvk?) was about 50 quid. plenty of releasing fluid and heat as has been said to remove it. mine stripped the threads on its way out so being more of a butcher than mechanic i just rolled the new one in. works fine. only thing is if it goes t*ts up again ill need a new front pipe.
