how do all first post ere im looking to lower my 1.1 cinq sport on the cheap by cutting the coils anyone done this if so how much do you cut off to lower it say 2 " cheers andy

NO!

You CANNOT cut the springs. You will NOT get them to sit flat due to the pure design of the springs. If you cut them, they will jump out of the locating platforms, whuich could cause a nasty accident. Buy some lowering springs.

:yeahthat: they're progressively wound (i think thats the tech term) which means they're wider at top than bottom at front and at rear closer at top/bottom so if you cut them you'll upset that setup and as said by chaos they will fall out of the locating seats on the setup and will almost definately cause a accident :(

Welcome to the forum though  :D

u can warm up the springs and lower it that way but it is easyer 2 buy then m8
Its not cheap getting springs 'manipulated' and even then they lose a lot of strength.

You could pick up a set of lowering springs on ebay for £20 if you search hard enough.

Hang on a min....all heating it does is make them get larger.

Plus youre really gonna mess up the internal structure of the metal if its an alloy. Not recommended.

pal be safe and follow these guys advice buy some lowering springs like i am going to be doing for my next car.

avoid an accident

its not worth the effort cause they fail an mot when yu cut the springs aswell you will be better off buying a set of lowering springs and maybe even shocks, if your car is to be your pride and joy then save the money aand do it right mate

ok and btw welcome and enjoy the forum
