Hi guys I have a 1.1 sporting sei Which is being turned into a full blown track car and I’ve seen some fiat bravo 1.4tjet engines on eBay recently and they seems cheaper than the abarth 1.4 tjet - I was wondering how difficult the swap is before I buy the engine, and money isn’t unlimited so I’ll boil it down to what I need to know

Best option for ECU
Manifolds to fit in the tight bay
Which loom would be best
Which other bits I’d need from other engines etc (alternator,power steering,brake cylinder
(Welding work isn’t much of a worry for me)

Other bits unrelated to engine work I’d need help with is:
Are there any cages easy to get hold of or is it a custom job
I think there’s some play in my steering rack but haven’t had much chance to drive it ( the wheel springs back in a weird way - goes way too far and basically steers opposite way when throwing the wheel)
Cheaper options for shocks/coil overs as these cars are light but very springy into bends, it definitely needs thick and low springs for some support along with rear arb and front strut brace

Any information would be a massive help in new to fiats - I’ve been a ford guy my whole life so far lol so any help is appreciated????
 
Hi mate I’ve watched this full series - not sure which 1.4 tjet he uses that’s my issue
And he uses an expensive ecu but I wondering if it was possible to do a little bit of messing around with standard ecus and looms or if more affordable ecu are out there thanks.
 
Define expensive ;) I talked a lot with that guy from the video (he actually helped me a lot with my own developments for my Grande, there is absolutely no price tag on his knowledge about electronics, that I lack myself ;)), and as far as I remember it was MS that he used, the only other alternative I bet he would consider would be ECU Master EMU. Neither of these options should be considered expensive. The only cheaper option (in your case) is the factory ECU with ECU Master DET piggy back. In all of the cases considerable amount of pre- and main calibration is needed.

The actual t-jet engine type does not matter that much, apart from the power they produce by default, since you have to tune in the ECU it's all the same. And do not kid yourself, for this kind of project you should consider upgrading the turbo and injectors right away, which really makes the particular t-jet engine choice irrelevant. (Internally they only differ in camshaft, 120hp-s have a "weaker" one, all other have a "stronger" one).

And regardless on how you cut the corners and save on things, this will be expensive, I do not know a single swap / turbo project for these cars that did not go over budget several times.
