I am considering buying a 1999 899cc seicento (have not looked at the car yet) as a runaround. Is the 899cc engine really hard to live with? Would I be best holding on until a suitable 1.1 comes up for sale? Thanks for any opinions on this.

The 899 is a great little engine.
Happy to be thrashed all day every day.
No cambelt to worry about.

I drove my 899 Cinq from London to Oberhausen in Germany and back in a day once to collect a Porsche gearbox, only stopping to fill the tank.

It ran best on 5W40 synthetic oil, not the original 15W40 mineral treacle...

Thanks for the advice! I will bear it in mind. Haven't decided yet if I will look at the car. My wife is far from enthusiastic and the green colour doesn't help its case either! Will update if I do. Interesting regarding the engine oil.
