Surely they are illegal?

I'm not 100% sure TBH. I was thinking it may be legal due to cars being brought over not needing to have UK style plates, but I haven't got a clue if it'll pass an MOT or anything.

Hmm, that doesn't make it ok though does it?!

My next door neighbour is a big VW fan and some of his friends have them, I agree with chaos; German plates on an Italian-English car would be slightly odd.

No true but most modifying is illegal if you look closely enough, badboy bonnets,de cat pipes etc even upgrading to brighter headlight bulbs can be deemed as illegal,
Cheers

the dub boys use them for shows mainly and they do look swish :D

its the same with black plates and silver numbers/letters

black and silver plates ARE legal, but only if your vehicle was made before 1973 and is tax exempt, as that was the year they changed them over.
So ILLEGAL on a Cinq then :p

german plates have a white background with black embossed lettering, with a kanton tag and registration date tag in circles in the middle. I believe you can still get metal plates made up in the UK, and so long as they're reflective enough they should be legal (so long as you're not using a front white one on the back and the front).

EDIT: NINO_1975 down in the barchetta section has got italian style plates on his car, which are metal plates with the italian font and with an irish reg... had me fooled until he told me!

I think it is a good idea.

If they are illegal id be tempted to carry your original plates in the boot, that way if you do get stopped, you can say you are changing them back when you get home :) and you have evidence to boot :D i agree with Jay, would look sweet at a show (y)
