I'm looking at buying a P60 engine in the next month or so. Are there any differences in the bottom end of the older and newer engines?

I've been looking on eBay and there doesn't seem to be a lot of pre 2000 engines about (I'm after an 8v spi). I'm thinking that if all the bottom ends are the same I can buy any 1.2 8v and just put my cylinder head on it. There's a guy near me who breaks fiats and has loads of blocks up for sale so I might end up just buying one of those, the only problem is making sure I get the right one. Is there any particular engine code to look out for (i.e. M6-4681418)?

Thanks

Anything 8v up to the end of Mk2 punto age as far as i know will be fine.

They changed a few things later for the Grande and Panda 8v's and i'm not too sure what's what with them, but the bottom ends of the mk2's are all pretty much the same as the mk1's. Some "may" have a sensor on the back of the block iirc but you just leave it on and pretend it isn't there for our conversions :)

Ye any 1242 8v should be fine. You'll not regret it.

May be worth spending some time searching for a low miles one, or build one up with shiny new bits. Most of the bits from you're engine (1108?) will swap, head, oil pump, sensors etc.

Cool, thanks for that. So anything between 1994 to 2006. Gives me plenty of options in that case.

Yes, I've got a sporting so a lot of bits will swap straight across. Does anyone make/ sell the spacer needed for the exhaust?
