At the lights the other day my cinq misfired :(

Now it had the Head gasket fixed about 2k miles ago (along with quite a few other bits, valve seats etc) So I am hoping I can rule out that.

I am going to get some decent plugs and leads first of all, and need a few Q's answered...

1. Are the plugs hard to change?

2. Do I need any specialist tools?

3. Where can I get some good denso iridium plugs from?

4. Are denso's the best?

5. Any other ideas about the misfire?

6. Thank you for your time :D

Cheers very much,

Joe

1. Are the plugs hard to change?

The plugs are very easy to change, you have to remove the Induction kit in many cases to get access to one of the plugs but this is not a big problem. Its a simply case of using a spark plug remover and turned (y)

2. Do I need any specialist tools?

Spark plug remover, cant be sure what size though

3. Where can I get some good denso iridium plugs from?

I used the Bosch Super 4's and they where nasty plugs so fitted some Champion EON 2's and they where brilliant! 100% recommended

4. Are denso's the best?

Different spark plugs don't offer great variations in performance and certainly the idea of multi-point spark plugs offering greater performance is ridiculous - a spark can only travel between two points at any time. What does make a difference is the heat rating of the plug, particularly in conjunction with more extreme modifications and compression ratio increases. So to be honest the different between Denso and Champion is propely nothing!
5. Any other ideas about the misfire?

Try changing ur HT Leads to something like Magnacor KV85 leads...

6. Thank you for your time

Not a problem

I would say the Denso and Champions differ in the fact that the Denso's will last longer as the tip is made from Iridium which is more heat resistant thangold and platinum and any other metal which they use for tips hence the difference in price.

I would also say this even if I didn't have Denso's.

Joe - Number 2 plug can be difficukt unless you have the right tools.

This is not correct!

Different spark plugs react with a different sparking pattern under different temperatures and different pressures. Also the moving of the gas affects the spark as does the location. There is several other variables to consider, but this would lead to far in this post.

We have conducted test in pressure chambers and other simulators and have hired professor Blair at the university of Belfast to conduct further test, which contradict your statement.

BTW the Denso plugs are excellent unlike the Bosh.

Thanks Liam, will use them :)

Probably not till the end of this month though, need to budget for skeggy ;)

About the gap spacing I am not sure but when I changed mine I had to re gap them.

I bought the "Swivel with T handle" wrench (that blue one) for my punto, found it very good for many cars.

A word of warning. When putting in the new plugs insert them using a piece of hose over them as a handle to reduce the risk of cross threading, use the wrench only when they are almost all in. And remember the 1-3-2-4 firing order, you do not want to mess that up.

hi

the plug that that i will and can recommend will be the NGK BKR7EVX Plat Tip

they are the best and suit the engine. they also eliminate the flat spot. Try it and you will not be disapointed.

Sorry to bring this up once again but..

Ok this might be the case but I only just recently replaced my Spark plugs for Bosch Super 4's and now Champion EON 2's but the spark plugs I took out where the Original Fiat Champion plugs and they where still 100% working and where in perfect condition after 33k on the clock.

Lets be honest you say the Iridium will last longer but how much longer would my original plugs have gone which where just standard plugs nothing fancy, so id say the Champion EON 2's technically should last longer being a better plug and made of better materials.. 50k out of some plugs for example costing £20 :D thats a bargain if you ask me, who could ask better.

Ok I guess you know more than I about this subject, so I will just take what you said onboard (y)

But as far as Denso, Champion, NGX the difference between these plugs would be so minimal it wouldnt be worth argueing over, also to point out when I was using the standard plugs I fitted KV 85 leads and there was an instant noticable difference in the rev's and when I fitted the Super 4's with the KV85 the engine was horrible (Not to self: Leave Bosch Super 4's Alone) and when I fitted the EON 2's with the KV85 it felt just like how it was with the standard plugs so I really would argue against anyone who believe spark plugs make a massive difference!

hi again,

as i said the NGK plugs that i mentioned before are the plug to use. why do you ask? well ask all FIRE engine users that use the plug on the racing tracks also Fiat has now started to recommend the plug for its customers using the FIRE.

i did use the super 4 and they were good... but the NGK is just better. mark my words. (y)
