Hello everyone,i have a Sei Sporting MPI with 1.2 8V Engine from Punto 75(Tuned with hotter cam,4-2-1 header and 10.5 CR,Ecu remap etc).
I have the whole engine swap except from the metallic inlet,i am using the Sei MPI 1.1 plastic inlet manifold.

I have a Fiat Strada metalic manifold in my hands right now which is exaclty the same as the Palio one,it has the servo take off on the side and not on the back as the P75 has,so i want to fit it.

How can i do this? The only thing i see and i know is that the TB cable is located on the other side than our Sei Mpis. Also,i am going to fit the plastic Sei mpi fuel rail and injectors in/on the Metallic mani.

What map sensor will i need?

Well is someone has ever done this,i would like to know exactly what i need to do.

Pretty sure the plastic rail plain won't fit.

If using the MPI ECU, you've pretty much got to use that MAP sensor (which also has the Air Temp Sensor in it).

I honestly doubt that there's any real advantage to doing it with the metal inlet manifold. It creates problems with mounting the TB, there are sensor incompatibility issues, the fuel rail won't fit, one system is return, the other non-return, injectors are different impedence and length, and so on. And no-one, as far as I know, has ever confirmed that it actually functions better.

I'd expect, also, the absence of the cam sensor to create issues. Is there a knock sensor?

Why not use the MPI head on the P75 block? Swap the cam over..........

The P75 head has the bigger ports in comparison to the sei mpi head. The head isn't the issue, it's just the plastic inlet.

The ports on the P75 metal inlet are considerably larger than the sei's plastic one and from what I've read and seen there is far more power to be had from using it. There is also scope for porting with the metal inlet.

These (borrowed) photo's demonstrate the size difference:

Whether the sei mpi fuel rail actually fits and what sensors can be used is another matter. I assume it would be an idea to try the sei mpi MAP sensor remotely like in spi cinq/sei.

Not sure how you'd do that. The air temp sensor (part of the MPI expects the inlet air temperature.

And size isn't everything -- the plastic mani may well work better!

It's an interesting experiment, but were I doing it, I'd junk the stock ECU, go aftermarket. You could then fit just about any TB (or sensor) you fancied.

As i said i'm runing the whole P75 engine except from the inlet manifold.I am also using the knock sensor off the sei mpi and i also have a custom adjustable vernier pulley(Moded the Sei Mpi one..so that i have the knock sensor runing).

Punto 75 inlet mani has got significantly larger ports than the sei plastic mani has. That's why none of the 1.2 8V Seis have never seen 73hp stock as the punto 75.It is the small inlet mani.

Also,Sei Mpi Ecu is not junk.We have done a very good remap for the 1.2 8V engine.

Add to that the cam, the TB, the exhaust manifold, the bigger valves.......

If you think the inlet manifold alone is responsible, show me the flow bench figures! A port needs to be large enough -- go too big and you'll simply get a narrower power band.

Also,Sei Mpi Ecu is not junk.We have done a very good remap for the 1.2 8V engine.

The first generation Sei MPI ECU (the Micro ECU) is junk. Not necessarily because of the map, but because of its construction. The second generation is a good, reliable, ECU. The reason to replace is that aftermarket ones are much easier to map, can be calibrated to run different TBs, sensors, etc., all of which is a PITA with the stock ones.

I've got a 09 1.2 8v mpi, great little engine pulls okay but it just needs that extra little kick up the arse??
I get discount at my local scrappy so I'm good for fiat spares because sadly it's full of them! and I'm also a level 3 apprentice engineer so I can do most things with confidence and I've had a go at polishing/porting on my old sporting (R.i.p) with great success

have a look for a thread by cento186 on his sei I done his p75 manifold to make it work on an mpi sei fairly easy to do

I've had a look but can't see it, so many posts and threads lol do you have a guide on what I would need to do?

Cheers in advance.

Some info there when I asked the same question and my old build thread for some pictures on how I did it

Is the engine the same as mine? Electric throttle body, 1242 mpi in a 09 plate??

I had a mk1 punto s before and it was pushing some serious power, bought it for £80 at an auction 3month
Mot thought why not lol on the drive home I realised that it was far from standard because it pulled better than my ST!!!
Looked over it the next day realised it had massive discs fitted all round, had power flex bushes, front top and bottom omp struts, Arbarth alloys and lots of random diy chassis strengthening.... shame it had more holes than a colander, got wrote off 2 months later by a taxi. Should of kept it for parts ??
