Hi mates,

finally I'm getting ready to have my cinquecento "upgraded" to 1242ccm.
I'll use the 1108ccm cinque head as it seems to be the same as the 1242ccm head. (and I have already another inlead manifold with 34mm trottle body and a 2" 4in1 exhaust so my head is ported a little at the inled and exhaust part to make the gasflow better).
I'm thinking of getting a new clutch (not necessary after 50'miles, but won't hurt) and a new cambelt. Are the parts the same for the cinque and the punto engine?
As right now I have a 10% shorter gear that allows me the be in the red at high speed right now (with above mods and a Punto75cam and a novitec airbox) so I was thinking of getting back to standart. To all that are driving a 1242ccm Cinque: is the standart gear ratio fine (in my case with 195/45-14) or too long (as for 1108ccm it is definately too long)??
Any addl. advice before my pocket ferrari gets the transplant?

I think the cambelt etc are different to a cinq as the engine is 10mm taller so the belt should be a bit longer.
Clutch is quite possibly different to but i don't know for sure

It were proper Bo i tell thee!!

The clutch is the same as a Punto one because I kept my original clutch when I did the 1242 swap. I don't know about the cambelt though sorry.

Ok a few Q solved.

How does the 1242ccm engine doing with the top speed?
Is it wise to change back to the stock 5th gear (for rev. less at travelspeed) or should I stay with my 10% shorted 5th?

I wouldn't want a shorter 5th in my 1242, I can put it into the red as it is!
I'm considering the 6 speed box or a longer 5th conversion.
Maybe I should just stop doing 95 everywhere though!

The cambelt BTW - you will need the Punto one.
Clutch - 1108 and 1242 clutches are the same.

BTW, what difference does the Punto 75 cam make?

Thanks,

so I will go back to the stock 5th!

For the cam .... hard to tell as I changed from a 280 degree cam to the Punto 75cam.
So it definatels gives more torque and less pull at high rpm ... but compared to at 280degree cam.

Pete,

nice to know that there are other man in this forum (I just define man as being past his 30th birthday).
When I calculated correctly the difference between 175/50-13 and 195/45-14 are 5%. So when changing back to the stock 5th gear it will leave my transmission 5% longer then yours.
That sounds not bad (at least adding another 10% through a longer 5th would be too much).
BTW don't spend a fortune on a longer 5th at Novitec. You will find other shops selling it way cheaper. (i.e. for germany www.novitec.com 159Euro www.bielstein.com 66Euro)

I came across that website a while back. They sell some good stuff, it's just so hard to work out what's what! [)]

I gathered "Fächerkrümmer" may be the exhaust manifold. But would they fit on a 1242? It's a lot of money to spend if it's not gonna fit.

Hi,

I can give you a helping hand with the translation.
The Fächerkrümmer ist the exhaust manifold 4-2-1. There are two "sizes" available 45mm and 50mm. I have the complete 50mm "Rennauspuffanlage" / Racing exhaust from head to back box. The exhaust channel in the head had to be widened a little to let the exhaust flow more freely.
According to a tuner (Köster in Herforg Germany) this should fit with the 1242 block (might need a little bending).
I can tell you more end of next month as I'll fit the 1242 block and will know for sure afterwards.
BTW the prizes are normally better when you stop by and pick the stuff up (rebate around 15%) too bad you live in the UK
