Has anyone replaced the front wheel bearing themselves? If so could you tell me what was involved?

It involves a big shifting bar to remove the staked front hub nut and a press to get the bearing in. Even if you strip the upright off the car you will need an engineering shop to do the pressing for you.

Hi,
When changing the front bearing, does the hub come away from the drive shaft spline reasonably easy, or is a hub puller required.....? Got to change mine as well...

i thought id pop onto this for a sec, how do u know if bearings on front gone, cus mine is making a lw rumble/whine as im driving and more noticable when im slowing down?

Yeah, thats what mine sounds like, gets worse when I turn left, so I guess its the right front bearing......

CV joint is splined and comes out of the hub quite easily. Small hammer and drift only.

my right side wheel squeeks occasionally, it doesnt hum all the time, but only makes this squeeking noise when turning left.... is the bearing on the way out or could it be somethin else?

I went along to my fiat dealer this afternoon, the parts man said they could get new bearings for £35 each. They are more than willing to press the old bearing and fit the new one into the stub axle if I took in the completed stub axle and bearing, for about
£35.

I should of, to be honest I don't want to let fiat lose with my car to be honest. I don't mind doing the work, always good experience.

Thats what I plan to do, got a bearing from my local motor factors (£20), will strip the hub off and take it to a garage and ask them to press one out and other in, slip them a fiver for the five minutes work....
