Well i had quite a morning!

Left an hour early today to beat the traffic, started the car up 5 mins before i left to de-ice and set off.

I noticed immediately that the gears were very hard to get into but i put it down to the oil being cold. A couple of miles later and went to change into 5th and it wouldnt go in! Went for the other gears and the wouldnt go in either! So i managed to roll into a layby safely out of traffic.

I thought the inner boots may have split but there was no signs of spill when i looked. Luckily i had my tools in the car so i cracked off the fill plug to check the level and out came a pea green looking oil! It wasnt overfull. I walked to halfords with was 10 mins away and grbbed some 'cheap' 75-90 and a drain pan and changed out the oil.

After this managed to get to work no problem and on time! I only changed the oil at 72k in june and im now on 83k, could this be water? Would it be worth getting some higher quality oil back in?

I will upload a pic tonight of the oil that came out later

Just thought id share that with you guys

Chris

Hi

Fiat specify a full synthetic for the gearbox(, and life the oil for 72k miles?).
Semi syn 10-40 for the engine...

I think the manual states 80/90w but I could be wrong, considering the change intervals are so great its worth while getting the correct and best you can.

But like fingers says it can be difficult to tell exactly what is best!

Hey this sounds just like mine but I had bearing noises when pressing the clutch. Ive put it down to my clutch but wondering whether the box needs oil too.

sounds like the same issues i have so looks like new gearbag oil for me then... also when drive is engaged i get alot of whine & in neutral the car has alot of drive still, i think the bag is dead but ah well
