Hi, on my new sei 1.1 mpi after few miles engine control light shows up and fuel consumption went extremely high-guy at garage found it was blocked catcon, resets ecu through computer and said just to rev engine from time to time and it will be fine..after 200miles there is engine failure at dashboard again, consumption high again..any ideas?? It have 50k miles done, previous owner(woman :)) was not driving it for a long time.Otherwise running great, slightly jerky acceleration.Thanks.

the cat is in 2 pieces and what happens is that the first part collapses into the second and basically strangles the car.this happened on my mrs 2001 sporting.just cut a hole in bottom of cat and knocked out what was left and welded up.even flew through the emissions test at mot time.

the cat on the mpi cars is the whole manifold.have had no issues since doing mine.cars runs better and wants to rev a lot easier.
i just cut a u shape section about 2 inches square and bent the flap of metal back.loads of cat fell out straight away and didnt take much to clear the rest.then just folded flap back and ran a line of weld along and ground smooth.now its rusted a bit you cant even see its been done.

will do this tommorow, welder friend of mine have some time to weld it back. will let you know.. again been in garage today and same failure - cat blocked..after reseting ecu its fine again (for a while)

Sei done, complet unintentionally de-cated, will post pics and explain later. no engine light yet, running much better, not any flatspots while accelerating, should I expect higher mpg or somehting??

cat looks fine from in-out, there was just something knocking inside right in the middle while shaking with it.. what hapenned was that in the middle of 'cat' itself was small loose 'ceramic' parts which was melted-consequence of using LPG in this car in past, or some high temperature from dont know what. after consulting with mechanic 'its dropped out' and that was the cause of blocking - so cut a hole and took everything out..

now its completely decated and Iam looking for some cheap replacement(as mentioned there will be higher mpg and MOT failure..).

whats really SAD previous owner must knew that, so just cheat me, which is not nice but dont have time and energy for some complaining through court etc etc. what do you think?

btw. taking cat out was like childborn, pretty tight there..
