Hey guys!

Ran into a problem, did my search all over the forum, but can't seem to find a satisfying answer. I'm changing my front wheel bearings, removed the locking ring already and managed to get the hub out (although one part of the bearing separated from itself and is still stuck on it )

I have got a 12 ton shop press, however I'm unable to get the bearing moving out of the upright!(stopped at 4 ton) My question is: How many tons are necessary and just to be sure am I pushing in the right direction?

Many thanks!

if that is not an impact socket you are putting ur life on the line cause if that socket explodes under the pressure the metal bits are going to tear thru your body and god knows what damage u would do to yourself:eek: there is a correct tool for every job and if u aint got it buy it:rolleyes:

Fingers99, thanks mate you where right once again :D
Bearing is out, direction was indeed towards the snap ring! (different from the manual )

I had to use an initial force of 5 tons to get is lose, thereafter 2-3 tons to move it out completely. When I applied the force I was standing away from the possible blast zone.:p. For the initial push I used a large wooden beam to support the upright till the bearing was touching the wood, after that I used the following construction, and all worked well (y) :

try replacing wheel bearing on suzuki cars... they have silly things like bearings pressed into items the wear much faster then bearings (brakes)

They must thing everyone owns a 20ton press lol

presses are a great tool... amazingly lethal.... next in line is my angle grinder with the guard removed so you can fit larger discs.... I love living on the edge with a grinder disc skimming your knuckles at 10,000 rpm

the best one ive done is a bit like Fingers99's sugestion in post 2.
only i used 2 lorry batteries, stupidly thick short cables and dead shorted them on the inner ring of the bearing till it glowed orange hot i then chucked it in cold water and then hit it with a big hammer.. oh fun times.
did the same to the outer ring. its great seeing it just shatter.

lol 4 tonnes.. 6 tonnes.. 20 tonnes.. nahh. nothing like stupid Amps to fix a problem! 1.21 gigawatts? Doc Brown's got nothin on me.:slayer:
