AFTER doin up my car and spending money on it . and putting her in for an mot yesterday after only owning her for 3 months , ive been told that the head is going on it , has anyone got a good second hand head or know of anyone that may be able to helppppppppppp ! please! :bang:

ive recently had a new themo and a new thermo switch put on but still over heats also when i start her from cold its almost like the handle needs turning to wind her up im so gutted as i said not had her only a few months so thats the reason i think it is the head gasket going !

I did the thermostat + switch aswell and my car was still overheating. Also it was very hard to start the car, and keep it running (kept stalling) when i had a blown headgasket. I didn't have the usual symptoms of water loss and mayo though.

thats exactually like mine, so i know its the head gasket !! only gets really hot when crawling in traffic they did a water temp test gets to 97 and fan cuts in

Head gaskets are quite expensive to get done at a garage, when i got a quote it was £300, so me and a friend did it. the parts are pretty cheap, you'll need the head gasket set & bolts (u can get em off ebay for £28), cam belt and tensioner (if you've got the head off, may aswell replace these there only about £15), new engine oil (about a tenner), and new antifreeze (£5), as well as a tube of gasket sealent (£5) so you're only lookign at about £50 for the parts, if you've got anyone thats able to do it with you. its not that hard, more time consuming than anything.

edit: Forgot to add you'll need to check the head when it comes off, might need it skimming at a machine shop, probably cost about £20.
