hello,

i was wondering if anyone has converted their seicento 899cc to lpg gas.
any pictures of fuel tanks available??? impressions?? is it worth it??

thanks!!!!

bad_boy_cinq has a lpg 1242. but the tank fills the entire boot and from his accounts make it abit tail heavy.

he did have his rr'd at 108bhp on gas and 85 on petrol so their are gains out there.

at 108 it was using the equivalant to petrol in costs so no gains in running

I say it would be worth it if you do A LOT of miles. then it will pay for itself. It would be like getting the equivalent of 70mpg - going by the price of lpg compared to petrol.

I would do it to a 1108 sporint though. worth spending a little money on.

I did think of getting a second hand kit a while back but buying a system full of gas and dismantling it semed a little dangerous...

you can DIY with gas conversions.
its safer then messing with petrol believe it or not. its just different and not well known so people worry also gas conversion company say its unsafe to keep business.

Pipe work is very simple and so is the setup on a basic spi unit (adjust one screw for the cars idle and another for driving)

been tempted to fit a VERY small (5liter tank) in my cinq for fun. gas is like 110octane fuel and brilliant for turbo cars as you can have a high compression engine and still run huge amounts of boost.
I worked it out and the cost would be to much just for some fun (Turbo would require a digital setup with multi point and large gas injectors)

im almost certain that bad_boy_cinq was saying although its half the price a liter you use twice as much and he only gets very marginally more mpg and doesnt think its worth it. long halls though remember you would have two tanks! :p 800-900miles before having to stop lol. perfect if you have bucket seats!

NOT

Not worth it, just service the existing set up.

Cheers

Hundreds of Polish Cento users would not agree with you, but I certainly do ;) But then LPG is a plague back there :( We even have a couple of lpg Cento turbos back in Poland (one even build on a Sei MPI ) that followed that same reasoning as Craig - no need to worry so much about CR and detonation.

This is an 899 the OP wants to convert. its a very basic engine that would run well on lpg, but its also very economical in standard form, so would need many thousands of miles of long distance driving to get anywhere near being economical to convert.

a frend in crotia ran a car YUGO 1.1 on a propane-buthane gas diy the tank is a bottle we use in homes for cooking it is about 12kg of gas
but then again he was a mental case for tryin to use another gas in the car
he "boosted" a 1.7 16v alfa romeo boxer with a pure oxigen conected to intake and on WOT opening the bottle.he melted two pistons and broke other two,but was happy cos the car vent from 50-180km\h in like 3-4 sec.before it died

From my experiance there is advantages to the economy from using LPG. Its got to be set up correct to make the best from it. The basic vaporisor and spi setup is just that, basic, it supplys gas drawn through by the vacume of the engine. When i was running mine i had it screwed right up to supply as much gas as it could and the power was amazing. On this setting it used as much gas as it did on petrol but still had more power.

There a few new systems out there now which have a lot better results for fuel efficency, im looking into upgrading my system to either gas or liquid injection. the liquid is by far the best so far but is still new and harder to come by.

Well, i have a Cinq Sporting on LPG, got my entire kit second hand for 35EU with a 27l bottle at the back.Easy fitting by myself, in the town and very very jamed traffic consumption is 10l/100km.Outside city is 6l/100km in speeds between 100-130km/h . So , what's not worth it ? I spend 7EU for a 100km cruisin in the city :p

thats 10l for 60 mile.???? thats bad economy tbh. even on petrol you should get better than that?

or 6liter of 60 mile thats about right tbh. i used to get that easily on petrol. yeh its cheaper to get lpg (in england tax goes up end of 2011) so gains wont be their for long imo.
