Hi,

I've noticed that when I close my boot the rear lights come one and stay on, even when I have not switched any lights on.

I'm not sure if these are low level brake lights or what ot just the actual lights. It's the red end ones. I've noticed that If I disconnect one of the electrical connector cables behind the 4 silver contacts on the boot area, the lights no longer come on when the boots closed, so it only happens when the cables are plugged in. Only other thing that doesn;t work is the back windscreen wiper.

When I disconnect these connectors behind the 4 silver contacts, I haven not noticed anything else not working, and it doesnt seem to cause problems. What are these for anyway?

There was a new back boot door fitted by a previous owner so unsure if it has been wired up properly? Not sure where to start with this one to be honest. Sorry for the long winded dribble....if you have any questions or clarification let me know.

Cheers

Hi,

When you say inner cover what do you mean? hehe, sorry I've not got a clue! and what should I be doing with this test light?

Hi,

I should also note that the back brake light across the top doesn't work either.
Is this related to the 4 silver connectors or further afield?

Hi,

Took the back panel off earlier to see if i could suss out the top rear brake light issue and seems that when the new boot door was fitted, not all the electrics were put back correctly - see pics. I'm guessing there should be 4 silver connector panels to the left and 2 to the right. I dont see to have the 2 to the right. Also the top brake light cable basically doesnt have anywhere to plug into. All the required cable pieces are lying in the boot but not sure how I get these connected see pics for what cables i have found and also of where the rear wiper motor is. I'm guessing the brake light should be able to plug up there somewhere?

Also noticed that when put on back wind screen washer it starts coming out down by the passenger back wheel, all over the road. Someone has done a shobby job of fitting this new boot door.

Any ideas on where to start with this? I have the required electric cables that I'm missing it looks like, just don;t know how or where to fit these.

so to cap...
top brake light doesn't work
rear wiper doesn't work
back lights are on all the time if I leave the connectors connected at the back of the 4 silver panels on boot. (i have disconnected these for the moment to stop this problem)
Rear water comes out by back passenger wheel...

Seems these issue are all because a new boot door was fitted.

Best taking this to a garage who do electrics and think it will be an expensive job?

Any pointers on how to fix this myself would be appreciated though.

Pics of my cables etc... found here

Dead easy to sort.

Get your test light, put the earth clip on the boot lock and switch something on, or get a friend to step on the brake. (only do one at a time)

Touch the other end of the test lamp against the connectors in the door frame one at a time until it lights up.

Match the connector inside the tailgate.

Washer pipe needs spliced, pop the inner panel out (if its coming out in front of the rear wheel) and find out where the break is (you might be lucky and find out its from a join)

Cheers

Hi Rallycinq,

Thanks for getting back to me, it's appreciated. I'm a total newbie when it comes to all this but not afraid to try and fix things. Successfully changed clutch cable myself a few days ago and thats an achievement for me :)

When you say a test light - is this just any spare car bulb i have lying about?
and the earth clip on the boot lock - where is there earth clip? (Sorry) - and should I tape this to the boot lock or just need to touch it? You also say touch the other end of the test light to the connectors - so if I do this, where does the opposite end connect to? Sorry if this all seems basic stuff but I've never done it before but would like to learn and sure i can.

The last thing - is the 2 panel connectors to the right of the boot frame which are not there, but I seem to have the cable lying about - how do i go about splicing this on?

Thank You
