The other day my rubber strip on my driver's side window came off, just at the one end at first but then almost all of it came out. The piece I'm talking about is the triangular rubber strip on the outside of the window, which presumably stops stones/grit getting in.

I took it to my mechanic and he reckons to slot it back in the door card has to come off, he tried taking the other piece of rubber off (the one joined to the door) but he couldn't budge it and said he'd bend it if he put any more pressure on it.

I've tried removing the door card (on the other door) myself before, to investigate a squealing window, and gave up as it seemed impossible.

I searched the forum and it seems the general consensus is that the door card does have to come off. So does anyone have any instructions/tips how to get it off? Other than removing the obvious bolts? I seem to remember last time I removed all the bolts and the door pocket and the thing just wouldn't budge.

I'd be grateful for any help,

IIRC it doesn't need to come off - taking the mirror off will make it easier though. The door card is, apart from the screws, held in place by some 'pins' that click into place, smth similar to this;

Most easily handled by a long, thin fork type instrument that will allow you to lever them out.If you try to pull them out by tugging on the door card you will most likely pull them out of the card, not the door (like I did with some of mine) - the result being a door card that won't fit properly later on.

As for the rubber strip - very common belief is that no amount of pushing it back in, glueing, wedging etc will make it work again (tested by myself too). Buy a new one.

PS Just to make sure you're doing it right - 3 screws need to come out of the armrest and 7 out of the door pocket.
