I am now epically P***ed of with this car now. I bought it for £550, spent £400 fixing it to make it road worthy, then another £350 at MOT time, now this! Im loosing it with cinquecentos!!! lol anyway....

The problem is, the headlights dont work on dipped beam. The main beam works when the ignition is switched on and I use the coutisy flash, and the bulbs glow dim when the sidelights are on. Its NOT the bulbs or the switch because ive checked the bulbs and I changed the switch today and I cant see it being the solenoids because I swapped those also and they both 'click' when i move the switch into the headlight on position. I got them from a scrapper but that shouldnt matter so thats not the problem. In my haynes manual it says something about one of the solenoids that made me think hmmmm and that is that the exterior lights and the cooling fan share the same solenoid. But it works. But the fan doesnt work :S IM SO CONFUSED!!!! AND MASSIVELY P***ED OFF!!!!!!!!!

If anyone has any ideas about either can you let me know please. Cheers. Ben ;)

With the engine running, try each of mainbeam, dipped, and the courtsey flash.

The fan should be an independent problem and it may be kaput, whatever.

Does it only fail on dipped? But work on main and courtsey?

If so you need to start with a muiti meter or test screw driver with bulb and check there is 12v into bulb contact socket, when dip is selected, at relay input and relay output, etc. You should be able to do this without disturbing the connections.

You can make up a simple test device with bulb and wire.

Somewhere 12v dissappears, especially if the relays are clicking, I'd suggest/guess probably relay contacts are not being made.

You spent £550 on one and youve spent a total of £750 repairing it?

As a mechanic you shouldve known better and walked away and looked for another one in obvious better condition

For the cooling fan you need to disconnect the connector from the temperature switch and short the connector contacts it to see if the fan will run.

If it runs the problem may be with the switch, not too bad.

If it does not run and one contact on the connector is 12v, (same bulb test lash up,) then the fan is kaput or its earth is bad, lots of earths are bad,...

No 12v on connector probably fuse, if fuse burnt then fan is probably kaput rather then earth, but you need a fuse to try.

Sorry

Noel
P.S. mine gives problems as well...

seicento cooling fans have a habit of seizing up. have lots of 30 amp maxi fuses and cross the radiator fan switch let it run a few times this can help to get it moving again ,its best to check it now and again so it does not seize up
