Hi, i posted a thread not long ago about my engine making loud sounds and the oil light staying on even though there was oil in the car.
Since then, however the car has been fine and I've had no problems what so ever.

Then today i went to start it up and it was making the same sound as before and the oil light was on! Last time i left it about 45 minutes to an hour and it was ok. This time it wasn't.:( I checked the oil and it was just under the minimum, i had checked it about 2 weeks earlier and it was just under the max! I haven't had chance to put more in but i will do either tomorrow or Wednesday.
Now, more worryingly there was a massive oil leak all over the bottom half of the engine block, around the point where the spark leads connect! There has to be something wrong there but i don't have much knowledge of cars so i don't really know.

Has anyone ever had a problem like this? Is it easy to rectify?

Thanks,
Liam.

i could be the seal ?

ive got oil all over the front of the engine, apparently theres a seal between the top and the bottom bits that isnt very good in the corners, if its the original fiat seal its usually here where it breaks and oil seeps out.

but if your loosing alot of oil then its probably something else

I'm no expert, but the obvious thing you could check is the cam cover gasket. As far as i know, the cam cover gasket is an easy fix and you could do it yourself, there's even something in the guides i think, try this link (ASSUMING 1.1 ENGINE): https://www.fiatforum.com/cinquecen...val-refit-cam-cover-gasket-1108cc-engine.html

There are pics of what the symptoms of a failed cam cover gasket look like, so that might be helpful.

Edited to add: If it's not that, it *might* be an oil filter leak or something, but as i said, i'm no expert :)

If the oil is above the spark plug holes, its the cam cover gasket. A few pounds buys a new one, so get it sorted.

I suspect you have some undue pressure somewhere so pop some flush in as you top up the oil, run it for the prescribed time then drain the oil, change the filter and refill with fresh 10W40 or 15W40, and take it from there.

Cheers

Hi Liam. SHould be more or less the very same job
I did mine about a week ago
Mine was also leaking when I bought it
Job took about 30-40 mins maybe
Gasket cost me 5 Euros (About £4)

By the way, dont forget to join the Cento Owners group

Ok, thanks.;)

899 is a bit more difficult to do as you need to pop the throttle body off first to get at the bolts underneath.

Yeah alright mate nice one. I'll get a gasket and see if i can have a go. If i get any problems I'll let you know.

Cheers,
Liam.

Just a little tip, make sure you have the correct torx socket for the bolts, I always put a little gasket glue with the gasket, no need to go mad, I then tighten down, wait ten mins and give another tighten. Also make sure the bolt heads are in good order and not stripped out, they do tend to get over tightened out of pure frustration causing them to strip out and not properly tighten up again. Becuase the gaskets are not much cop over time people keep nipping them up to try to stem the leaks.

All the 899s I have worked on have used allen headed bolts.
