Would anyone be kind enough to post a picture of a engine with the engine number pointed out.
or even mark it out on this pic.
engca1a.gif

There is two 1.2 engines at the scrappy and I cant find the numbers on them AT all! im told one of them is a P75 :slayer: (both are mpi)

I can never find engine numbers.

If it has no bump on the cam cover near the oil filler with a cam sensor sticking out, (but is MPI) it's a P75 (usually the outside of the head is smooth, rather than ridged as in your pic).

Otherwise, it's a later engine. Be a bit careful with these as the MPI 1108 and 1242 used the same head, thus, 1108 MPIs have 1242 on the head!

Very late 1242 engines seem to have the same alloy sump as the 1.4s and will be coil per cylinder.

Pics might help.

thanks.

I had a close look at the flat surfaces around the waterpump and that but seen nothing.

Im pretty sure both had the hatch effect on the heads.
Ive heard about the 1242 been printed on the 1108 heads. would the 1242 have anything on the block as im sure I seen "1.2" cast onto one of the blocks somewhere.

thanks for the sensor tip I will have a look. and will take my camera if im still stuck.

Might be best to whip of the cover and look for the 866 cam. just to be safe.

ive never seen 1242 casted onto a head, only 1342 (firing order). attached a picture to show the location of the engine number. it might need cleanign with emery paper first though.

most of the ones i have seen have them on the side
<<< LOL

Right just got back from the scrappy.
I managed to forget to pick up the sheets I printed but found the numbers and took a photo of them.

Right the engine i had hopes for was a 176.B4.000. which according to the info i have is a Punto 60, from 1997 : 176.B4.000 (SPI) but this had MPI. (first pic)

now the second engine it was hard to make out but im 95% sure it said: 176.A8.000 (second pic) which is Punto 75, all years : 176.A8.000 (MPI)

The thing that made me doubtful on the second one is on the top of the head they have wrote (good engine 1.1)... maybe there wrong?
This had a hatch pattern on the head but i never took no photos becuase i was doubtful.

Right guys... just got back from the scrappy again.
I asked to remove the cover and it looks like the cam is a sexy 866! (see pic)

The mileage on the documents they make says the car it was from had only 9K on it! he said it seems stange but he can only say its right (engine dont look like its done 90k)

he said its mine for £100. worth it?
