ok people, been thinkin blending my abarth bumpers an lookin into gettin the skirts moulded...

question time:

1. could i have a bash at this with normal body filler etc.

2. could i use somethin like an electric sander (like a belt sander or sumthin) to get a smoother finish?

yeah - in fact i wouldnt recommend doin it without - it would take ages! I used a little Black and Decker mouse type jobby but I would imagine that a rotary sander would be better.

so a dirty great big rotary or belt seems to b the way to go then...

i was havin a look at the skirts today, would b tricky to get them the same, might just have a bash at the bumpers an c how it goes..

firstly sand both parts of the bumper (abarth and original), to rough them up a bit. then bridge/bond both parts together using a fiberglass filler, not too much but enough. once thats set, it'll be rock soild, so dont bother sanding it down as it'll be extremely hard, just make sure that when you put it on, try and give it a smooth finish.
then you'll need cover it with body filler. you'll find you'll have to give it a few layers as when you sand it down each time, it may still be uneven or have pit hole. just fill and sand till it reaches the required surface level and smoothness.
then prime it and respray it!!

as an extra tip, with you bonding to bumpers together, to prevent it flexing and then cracking, use some expanding foam you get from b&q, behind the bumper. this wedges both parts together, stops flex and stops it from cracking and making you very upset!!
lol.

this goes for nearly all blending and reshaping projects.

hope this helps. have fun.
