Evening People. Had a hard day fixing my new seicento today. Ive managed to get the central locking working and ive alradite'd the window to its seat so it doesnt come loose now.

I am however having problems with this blasted heater unit. The problem is with the first dial on your left. It clicks to the first and second option but wont allow me to select the third. There seems to be some resistance to the 3rd option(windscreen icon on it) it springs back to the second option. All the other dials (centre and right) work correctly. I have taken it off to have a look at the back, but im miffed- as it seems without taking the dash out I cant actually see the connections at the rear.

Has anyone experienced this problem. A lot of threads talking about a dodgy cock but all the other buttons work fine so i think it maybe a restriction in the cable????

Any help would be appreciated as the car is in pieces at the moment.

remove the rear engine bay felt stuff, the big section on the nearside

then you can see the heater matrix etc, and should be able to see whats going at the other end..

I have messed with mine a lot, and never had the cable snag, I presume you can unhook the cock, and see which is at fault easily then though :)

Cheers,

Krisitan

Evening Fiatforum,

I spent a few minutes this morning removing the firewall and to see if i can solve the issue mentioned above. After removing the firewall i am massively unsure what i am doing.

I didnt want to delve any deeper with out some help from someone with this issue before.

I took a few pictures which i have attached. The photo with the knobs on is to illustrate the issue. THe knob clicks to point one, it clicks to point two but inbetween points 2 and 3 it shows resistance (like a spring psuhing back) and reverts to the position you currently see it at.

I am miffed as to what to do now. There is a cable behind the firewall which appears to be the one that links to the knob behind the dashboard.

Other photos are for illustration. If im barking up the wrong tree can someone please help tell me.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Ian

would it be possible for someone to try digging the heater system diagram of a sei cd manual?

I really want to get down and dirty asap and fix my cock!

Hi Guys seems ive been talking to myself lately but its good to report my progress in case anyone else has the same issue i spose.

Basically im having a mare trying to remove the heater dial bit that physically sits behind the dash. I want to remove the connections at the back without breaking the linkages.

Has anyone removed the heating cluster without removing the dash before?

any help would be appreciated.

ian

ok i think ive figured it out! but i have a few questions.

I have attached a video to show my issue:

you can see it at youtube -

After taking the video i managed to have a good feel around the back and look at it as best possible (without removing the dash completely ) and i have sketche dout what i believe the issue to be below- Maybe if theyres any fiat garage people here they can tell me if this is a fault or if the issue lies elsewere:

basically whats happening is there seems to be a 45 degree bend in the metal wire that links to the knob before it enters the sleeving. This wire cant 100% enter the wire sleeve because of the bend. (the 45 degree angle is acting as a spring and creating resistance) .

The other knob ( which controls direction of air, feet windrscreen etc) has a straight piece of metal which enters the knob. Is the temperature one supposed to replicate this?

Any help would be appreciated- regards Ian

hi, mine sei temp control knob is doing the same as yours also have kink in cable ,just ordered one from fiat £6.85 collecting on wednesday.:)

hmmm- interesting- im suprised not many others have heard of this needspeed.

Can you be so kind as to take a few photos for tutorials and so that i may copy you?

Can you see how its going to be possible to complete with out taking the dash out?

Its right fiddly behind there.

Regards

Ian

hi,i don,t think you need to take dash out to refit cable,if you remove battery and pull firewall forward and put your hand down behind firewall you will see where the cable joins.i,m hoping to attach new cable to old and pull them through bulkhead and attach to heater control.cheers

Evening Needspeed- just chekcing up on your progress? Is the cable definetley differnet? Is the kink the problem?

Have you had a chance to fit etc etc.

Any photos, tips on procedure?

Regards

Ian

hi,fitted new cable yesterday as my dealer gave me wrong part first.promblem is defineatly kink in cable, works spot on now.
took about 30-45mins to fit, the hardest part is attaching the new cable to the heater control knob plus refitting the screw to hold the cable in place.cheers

exactly the same issue on mine - but the heater works on both hot and cold, so never saw fit to fix it - just assumed it was meant to be like that since i've seen the same thing on so many otehr Seis in the past...

Is this a hard job then?
