Here is the most basic of questions - Where should I put the trolley jack to lift the rear of a Sei to change the fuel tank?

What is the best location for the axle stands?

For future where is best for the front end?

Thanks for your help!

On the rear I use the damper bottom mount for the trolley jack, then axle stand or stands on the suspension cross beam. To do the fuel tank I'd put the axle stands on the jacking points as you need clearance under the car.

For the front I use the the box sections under the footwells to lift and to support.

I need to replace a rear shock absorber. The Cinq Haynes manual says to jack up the car, support it on an axle stand and then jack the shock absorber so the spring coils don't pop out. Is it best to use 2 axle stands on the suspension cross beam like you said or would suffice?

You'll be replacing two shock absorbers, I hope.

I would do them one at a time, jack one side on the front box section, put a single axle stand in and do that side, then do the other.

The difficulty is getting to stands on the rear beam, there isn't enough space between the arms.

Once you've got the car on the stand, give it a good heave to make sure it won't fall off when you are under it.

Is it best to do them both shocks together then? (I'm not very mechanically minded)

Yup, one new damper and one old damper are a recipe for an unbalanced car. They are cheap enough, do both.

Before starting the job, get some Plus Gas or similar penetrating fluid and apply liberally to both the top and bottom bolts for a few days.
