Looking for urgent help folks please, got to drive to Scotland next week and for the last while I have noticed a hot smell coming from the car, slightly chemically smell.

I have also twice noticed a puff of steam come from the bonnet, both when stationary in traffic. I have checked the oil and water, both levels are ok and there are no fluids leaking beneath the car overnight.

The car had a FIAT service 2 months ago. The only thing that looks odd to me, I am not technically minded, is that the radiator fluid is quite a strong dark green colour and I wondered if this was normal, have been told thats normal for Fiat radiator fluid.

Sorry for long post but any suggestions would be welcomed as i have read the Sticky's and they haven't helped, hope I'll make it to Scotland! Thanks

PS does "expansion bottle cap" mentioned in the sticky on overheating mean the radiator bottle cap? Oh and I haven't had any warning light coming on either.

Yeah, that's the cap. Could be a dodgy radiator you have - they don't last long, typically 2 years.

The thing is the radiator is only 6 months old and having had a good look at it all the fins seem to be ok. Going to take the car out again today and see what it does thanks for the help, anymore still appreciated though, does it sound like it good be the cap thats gone?

Sorry to post another one but have had the car out today and have noticed no steam or other leaks in the engine bay but have noticed that around the base of the radiator bottle cap is slightly damp, a little water is collecting there so I suspect that may be leaking. Not veryu much though as the level inside is still near max. Went to Halfrauds and they offered me a cincqy radiator cap and did not have the Sei one on the system. Are they the same part for the Cinq sporting and sei sporting. All replies welcomed as the Sticky does not say whether it is Cinq or Sei part at £2.99. Will need to get it tomorrow if it is. Thanks for your patience with all these posts folks.
