tips for replacing fuel pump.. remove the gauge sender before removing pump securing collar. don't drop any nuts, or bits of pipe into the fuel tank.

didnt start the first time, but fired up fine the second time. i upped the fuel pressure at the regulator slightly as well.

i'd be lying if i said i've noticed any difference at all, but at least it's done and in place ready for the MPI system.

Slightly off topic but is the sender guage for the fuel just a float?

Not really, its a fairly large canister thing which probably has a float inside but its sealed.

The removal procedure is detailed well in Haynes manual and it does say remove gauge sender first.

The 14 or so nuts that hold pump housing in place are 7mm and a flexi hose clip driver is perfect to remove them.

TBH unless you give the regulator a few turns and measure the change on a gauge a slight turn will do little difference.
