Ok so after a day or so of sitting discs start to look a wee bit corroded just speckles and after a week they look quit bad. Now is there a way to prevent this a coating that can be applied, even if its to the non contact parts as there the worst.

Cheers

On the contact surfaces no, unfortunately being mostly steel they will rust and obviously can't be coated as they are abbrasive surfaces. You could try painting non abbrasive surfaces with something like Hammerite.

The corrosion does no harm, the brakes work as well if not better as it gives a similar effect to grooving. When you get the brakes they come with a waxy preservative and you have to remove it with brake cleaner. I would not want to do this with them on the car as you might contaminate the pads and the benifit is limited as they still corrode under the pads. The front discs on the MG sit from October to April the car is just rolled around a bit to stop the tyres flatting, and thats it, they may squeak a bit first time you use them but from then on fine for another year. I have had a car fail MoT where the outside rim has corroded away, but even here if its not too far into the swept area the trester can still pass you at their discretion.

I don't see why it matters that they're rusting. After i've washed my car and left it overnight i just drive down my road and gently apply the brakes for a few meters, get a slight grinding noise but that disapears afterwards.

Theres nothing wrong with rusted steel as long as the rust is cleaned off sometimes

Its the non moving parts that it annoys me on, ie the bit of the disc that sits over the hub.

to prevent it, just don't drive the car when its wet or atall damp, and drive it immediatly into a dry garage.

no rust :D

I've noticed some new cars brakes dont' rust atall, new golf gti is one that springs to mind, my grandparents have one, in torndado red (the best VAG colour that ever was) and its discs don't seem to rust

You basically just have to live with it, a good reason to have steel wheels, you just cant see it as well.:D
Having said that, my last bike had stainless steel disks, a case of form over function though.
Whatever I would not attempt any form of coating on any part of the disks.

Stainless Steel brakes

All stopping will be dealt with on receipt of a signed document in triplicate..

As I say - these have not gone rusty..

I know a 99 Audi A4 uses Brembo discs as standard, they dont rust as anti corrosion treatment.
