Bumper Shine, Back to Black

I have used halfords back 2 black, turtlewax bumper etc. but when ive polished car etc and applied the bumper shine it lopoks good, but when it rains the bumper shine on the bumper trim smear onto paintwork. is there any alternative i can use that doesnt smear onto car when it rains. like a non-drip back2black.

I've owned a detail shop for 3 or 4 years and I can tell you that all "dressings" are going to mess up your paint. Your only alternative is to use one of the available dyes on the market. The best one I've found is Bumper Black because it's permanent. All the other ones only last a few weeks at most and most of them will even peel off in the wind while you're going down the road. I've never had any problems with Bumper Black and all you do is wipe it on. It don't come in any kind of complicated kit or anything. All you do is wash your car like you normally would and apply the dye and you're good for the next hundred years. I don't know if it's sold in stores or not but you can get it at bumperblack.com

For me the best stuff seems to be Simoniz Back to Black Trim Restorer. It gives a decent sheen to the plastics and also darkens the colour making them look new. It lasts around a month so durability is ok.

The best thing about it is that it's in an aerosol and you simply spray it on and wipe, doesn't matter if you get it on the paint or even glass as it'll just wipe off.

Not bad for a fiver anyway!

I don't know if its been mentioned but Asda sell carplan (I think) original black for £4, I've always used that, can't say I noticed any run marks or anythin similar from rain

Ground Nut oil - used on plastic before :) comes out okay
But been a natural oil
It does slowly wash off

Somebody else said Peanut Butter does a good job too, but it contains alot of oils that soak into the plastic

So lots of Waggly tail dogs having a yea old'e lick of the car bumpers..... YUCK!

ziggy

Best to do it when the weather is good and rain isn't forecast for a few days, give it time to dry and not smear down paintwork. Alternatively apply only a small amount so it doesn't layer on the bumper to heavily.
