Hi All,

Had a look through existing threads (and google) but struggled to find an answer.

Firstly, is there anything impaticular that I need to cover up under the bonnet? Electrics etc.

Secondly, will a watering can suffice for cleaning the engine bay? My car is parked on a residential car park and therefore not able to use a powered hose.

Thank you in advance,

Sam

Well first attempt was s***. Used gunk engine degreaser, didnt seem to do much. Tried waxing plastics, they turned white (which i thought it might but i read to use wax :S ) Tried cleaning hoses, they just returned to filthy onced dried.

Ah :(

ah you have much to learn ;-)

if your in a rush to get your engine bay as clean as mine :p

(im not telling :nerner: )

nah seriously avoid direct water contact with the body computer (those plastic plugs ;) ) the ABS modulator and the fuse box although a watering can with a rose on should be fine.....

I use Bilt hamber surfex on mine diluted to about 1:10 and spray it all over libbberally then brush it about using a mixture of paint brushes and a cloth then rinse really well with water

(you can also use the likes of Muck off (mountain bike section in halfords, or autoglym machine cleaner)

once rinsed well

break out a bottle of autoglym Vinyl and rubber care and spray all over the Bay and leave to dry

Been reading around and found 303 areospace protectant is recommended for hoses etc?

Lucky I covered the computer etc up :D Just covered everything that had any sort of wire coming out of it or that looked like a sensor.

The other brush I have found is ez detail brush. Not sure if its any good but im sure any brush will do. The problem I had is that no matter how much degreaser I used (I used gunk degreaser) it only seemed to clean the surface. Obviously this engine has not been cleaned since new.

I would appreciate any tips etc :)

EDIT: Didnt notice you mentioned autoglym, ill try some of that :)

The 303 is £15 ish a bottle where as the AG stuff is £6 ish ;)

Try a different degreaser i dont really like gunk it stinks for starters......

You might find the galv coating on the engine is oxidised hence it wont shine not much you can really do there bar clean well and pain with heatproof paint

gave the autoglym stuff a go and works great!

Problem is though, the plastics are clean but the rest of the engine still looks filthy :( I think, unless an engine is kept clean from the start, it will never return to its brand new look unless repainted
