Hi,

I'm after a good polisher as polishing/ waxing by hand is now starting to get very tiring. Also my car suffers from swirl marks, and some light scratches.

I am on budget and wondering if you can get a good one for around £50? with some bits etc.

Also how do you use them properly and are they best for removing swirl marks and getting the 'best shine'!

Your help would be much appreciated (y)

(i used to use this http://www.screwfix.com/search.do;j...tton.x=0&searchbutton.y=0&searchbutton=submit but stopped as it started to leave marks, was utter rubbish and wouldn't even remove AG SRP! i was also told that i should use them with water!?)

Right no matter which option you choose its not going to be cheap.... (sorry but it has to be said first off)

If you have never machine polished before its worth getting some practice in on some panels from a scrap yard (ideally a punto bonnet or the like)

first consideration in the machine A fixed rotary is more difficult to learn but delivers faster results in skilled hands but as it is "faster" its easier to do some serious damage if you get it wrong.........

A dual action (DA) polisher is much safer as it rotates and oscillates which reduced heat build up and gives a slower cut which is more time consuming BUT safer....

Then your next consideration is what pads... I have opted for the Meguires Mirror glaze pads with my DA (and you can never have enough of them) along with some elite car care spot pads (3.5") for the bumpers and tight areas........

then to cutting compounds....

yet again there are various ones but i find megs #83 and Menzerna Final Finish Polish - P0 85 RD

i went for the kesteral DAS 6

As andy says as you have never used a machine polisher before i really wouldnt go for that silverline as you are just gonna go burning through your paintwork as you put too much pressure on. You arent gonna get a good machine cheap so if you cant spend £140 on a megs/kestrel i would stop thinking about it now.
