Hi everyone, for the last 2 months or so i have been using luke warm water to clear my car windows instead of de-icer as someone told me it is bad for the rubber and seals on your car which i think makes sense as it has alcohol in it, but is this myth or reality?

Water is far better like. Seems to do a much better jod, probs true about the de-icer. One downfall (literally) about water, after i took the jug back into the house went to get into my car and slipped on the excess water which had frozen :O

de-icer hasnt gave me any problems at all, but the halford screenwash has. for some reason the window is clean when i apply the screen wash but soon after dirt appears again and also there are blueish staines onteh window.

i have now gone back to using little bit of ferry liquid with water.

I use the Auto glym De-icer supposed to be safe on paint rubber etc certainly better than what my dads gaffer gave him to use on his works van it Freezes to the screen faster than water so he just sits their and revs the nuts off it till it defrosts

ive taken to placing a 1800 KW blow heater on the back parcel shelf whilst i have my breakfast (got an outside socket on the patio) all nice and clear in 10 mins and the cars lovely and warm (y)

De-icer doesn't affect the rubber seals. Nothing affects rubber seals, except UV light and the kind of temperatures you'll only experience if you're out driving when a nuclear war breaks out...

Be careful with hot water though.. it can fracture the glass (thermal shock). Use just warm water.

one mistake i made was to have my automatic wipers on! When i poured the water on the window the wipers came on and i got covered! Just a little tip

You shouldn't use washing up liquid in your washer fluid, the salts in the liquid will eventually block the washer pump rendering it useless.

Been there, done that. (n)

Anyone at Stanford 2005 will remember I cleaned my whole car with de-icer after suddenly deciding to go on the stand  It's still fine :D
