hello,

the lighting for my heather control has stopped working, so the knobs for the speed, heat, and position arent lighting up. the buttons under it to turn on the a/c etc.. are working fine, its just the heather control lighting that isnt working.

went to fiat and they want to charge me. £65 just so they can have a look at it.
they said they will have to strip the whole thing down so they could investigate whether its the lighting or the bulb itself.

is there a cheaper way of me doing this?

thank you

One of the bulbs in that section went on mine last week as well...so only getting illumination for the left hand side!

I'd assume its a bulb and so should be able to be replaced easy enough, I just havent had a chance to check the forum on how to do it yet :)

I've started a thread previously on this subject. There is however a guide in the grande section for this which may help you. I couldn't get the necessary tools for the job so my local independent is going to have a crack at it next week . He has warned that crack could be the appropriate word as plastic bits often snap off during removal . (they did when we had the same problem on the Stilo but no serious damage ). In any event its worth the risk as I really miss the control lights having got so used to them . Bulbs are about 20p. Got a box full of ebay. ( I will post results of our efforts after the end of next week)

Okay, I will wait until then£ let me know how you get on.

mine packed in about two year ago, but i found tapping it made it come back on. It had a fit of going on and off for a few weeks then it stayed on ever since.

i managed to do the stilo ones no problems.

back in November i replaced all the ones in our 306 when i caught the mrs driving it without them and on asking how long has it been like that and she replied "about a month".

How did you do it David? The guys at my garage are a bit nervous about damage (I'm due to see them on Friday) but I wont take it to the local Fiat dealer because I don't trust the teenage hammer and bash men there.
We might need a Bravo guide on this one.

Half of Mine has stopped illuminating :(

gear gaitor off, couple of torx screws, think i took the radio out not sure though. trim under radio off the one above heater panel. take the carbon surround off, then ashtray thing then heater controls. use fingernails to pry off the front cover of the heater controls or locate the bulb wiring at the back and try that, have fun, i did

Davids instructions gave me the confidence to tackle this job .
How I did it....
Remove silver surround to gearshift gaiter (prise up with screwdriver ) Remove torx screws - be prepared with a T25 screwdriver. There are several screws which hold in the plastic surround to the central console and gearstick. Take them all out. The shiny plastic covers to the dash above the heater controls can be prised off with a putty knife or wallpaper scraper . There a number of snap-fit lugs which can (and in one case did) break. The top retaining screws of the surround are then visible . Remove these.
The fascia of the heater control panel is held in place by six lugs. Snap undone the lower three - use a flat thin screwdriver and it helps to stand on your head to see these. Once loosened its easy to lift up the panel and snap the top lugs free. The control knobs are on pretty tight but with a bit of a tug they come off . They replace the right way easily as there is only one way they go on.The innerds of the panel are now accessible . There is a transparent plastic piece visible which acts as a series of prisms to direct the lighting and which breaks easily but can be repaired if necessary. The two bulbs are visible at the top of the panel . After replacing them test before reassembly. Reassemble is simply the reverse of dismantling. Takes about 20 minutes if all goes well.
NB. Take care to push the control knobs well home before snapping back the front cover otherwise the knobs wont rotate very well.
I managed to break a couple of plastic lugs but it still all holds together . I lost one screw down in the centre console and when trying to fish it out with a magnetic probe I lost the end of that too!
