Hello,

I got caught in a traffic jam and the car[1.4 Sreg] did not start, I waited with the engine off. It started, and then stalled again. Called the AA who discovered the immobiliser orange light did not disappear. I was told the key needed reprogramming, so I got a new key made, which the security man said was OK. All lights are on on the dashboard. I phoned an ebay seller who seems expert he says that under the passenger seat is a reset button [which is visible on my Punto] but not on this car. I will take the carpet up and look for it. However if this does not work 2 things seem possible a] the controller is disfunctional b] the immobiliser is disfunctional [which I now realise is seperate from the controller unit.] The expert says he can supply a collar for the key which sends to the immobiliser. Can anyone make further suggestions what is wrong and what to do I am new to security as my previous was a panda.
thanx
john

AA men are not much help in these situations, other than get you home.
Most likely faults are:-
Poor engine relay operation, connections to relay, fuse to relay, connections fuse, relay, ECU.
Much less likely faults, ecu, immobiliser.
Never faulty are keys.
Check for permanent battery connection (red cable) to ECU and immo.
Check for ignitio +13v connection (orange cable) to ECU and immo.

the aerial around the ignition barrel is another thing to check. the connector on it can often come loose. same for the code box which is on the back of the fusebox.

Thanks for these replies, I had trouble with one relay under the detachable plastic shroud against the engine bulkhead. [I think it was for the petrol pump] It was making a buzzing noise so I swapped for a similar from the breakyard. This didnt work so I the old one back.
Will check these ideas of yours saturday morning.

thanks

Jug was absolutely right one connector in its polythene holder and was not making contact with the relay. Had I taken the car to a garage they would have done the immobiliser/ecu thing and cost me mountains of money.
Thanks again
