the check strap problem is very very common. i've owned 2 bravos and had to change the check strap on the driver's door 4 times. its an easy job to do, and a check strap costs less than £5 at a scrapyard.
people do not lubricate their check straps annually, as they should. i suggest some grease as this willl not wash away as quickly as WD40. a badly lubricated check strap puts excess strain on the mounting brakcts in the door. this usually causes the bottom bracket to snap off, when this happens the clicking noise begins, and can be very loud. in tihs case replacement of the check strap is the only option. however a noise can also be due to play in the pin that holds the check strap arm onto the car. when there is play in this pin the door makes clickinging noises but not as loudly as when the brakcet snaps. to fix play in the pin you really are best off replacing the pin with a new one, or as i have done use something else, something solid unlike the hollow pin.
