hi just wondered if u could possibly help me i have a n reg bravo 1.8 only have 2 blue keys no red key.the car does not start unless i remove the battery earth lead then put it back on then put key in and it will normally start first time.sometimes i need to repeat the proceedure until it starts.it runs great but once i turn it off nine times out of ten i need to do the same again to get it going.i have check all the earth connections and pretty much everything u can imagine. the remote central locking does not work unless i put key in lock then central will work ok.once its running the key code light flashes on and off constantly. i have been told it could be the code reader box .i have been to fiat today who requested the 4 digit number from fiat but they have not got back to me with it like they said they would.i have also been told i would need the red key if i bought another code reader box but i dont have it .have u any idea what the problem may be

the flashing code light means the problem is with the immob.

the most likley culprit in my opinion is the loop aerial around the ignition barrel. that aerial reads the key code and sends it to the code box. you can replace it with a scrapyard one to see if it fixes the problem.

the code box can also be the problem. a code box is paired to its red key. that red key's code can open the code box so it can learn blue key codes. sometimes these blue key codes are lost. when that happens only the red key will sort it out. since you dont have a red key you can't try that. if you get another code box you will need the matching red key for it, or at least the chip from the red key. dont buy a code box without its matching red key, it is useless without it as you cant teach the code box your blue key codes.

the other possiblity is a faulty ecu. if the ecu is not communicating with the code box it could be an ecu fault. replacing the ecu isnt really an option you wan to consider at this point so lets assume and hope it is something else. it is very very rarely an ecu fault. however your earth lead method of starting the engine would suggest an ecu fault is definately a possibility.

another option is a simple wiring fault in the immob circuit. for example a loose connector on the loop aerial or codebox, or a damaged wire inbetween them. its surprising how often this is the problem.

i'd try checking and/or replacing the loop aerial first, its more commonly the problem and the cheapest and easiest to replace.

allowing a fiat dealer to do a diagnsotic is probably the best way to find out whats actually wrong. you can then fix it yourself to avoid their prices, but at least they have a good chance of finding the fault.

Dont forget to go over thouroughly all the relay connections and clean and check all fuses and connections especially the 7.5 amp supply to immo. Its almost certain to be connections and in some cases immo.

hi,i have the same problem with my bravo hgt,the car would be driveing perfect and ten it would just cut out and the keycode light would come on and the car would not start, its in a fiat garage now geting a brand new e.c.u in it and the keycode box and immodiliser in it,and its costing me €900.i changed everyting befor this, new fuel pump, alarm, relays and every fues inthe car and cleaned all the earths and the fuel cut off point under the passenger seat.hopefuly you will find a cheaper way out,

hi,did you have the same keycode problem, its a nightmare, hopefully this is the end of my problem.i never had trouble till this problem.

thankfully i havent had the same problem, but i've helped enough people with this problem to know how expensive and difficult it can be. even the dealers often struggle to figure it out first time. fingers crossed your new ecu sorts things out. (y)

hi jug,i hope this e.c.u works,no faults would show up on the old e.c.u,it was just blank, fiat say i dont need to put a new imobilisor or key transbonder in, as the new e.c.u doesnt come with any new keys the guys are just going to take the key code out off it,i only have 1 blue key.and no red 1,so hope to have my hgt 155 20v back tomorow,i have it in excellent condition,
