Hello there...

Has anyone heard of somthing like this?
The local fiat service guys, replaced this to fix my irregular idling when the engine was cold. Looks like a spark plug with an wire connector on the one side and the sensor on the other...

The car runs much smoother when cold now. ( I had no problems when warm).
( 1.4 bravo )

do you mean the lambda sensor? was it on the exhaust just in front of the cat? thats the only sensor i can think of that looks like a spark plug, but strictly speaking it shouldnt affect the cold idle as it doesnt work until the car is warm  maybe it was returning a constant signal that was making the ecu think its constantly warm, that could explain it. you should now notice an improvement in fuel economy as well as better idle. (y)

actually it was probably the coolant temperature sensor. that looks like a small spark plug, kind of, and would be more likely to give the symptoms you described. did coolant leak out when they changed it? if so thats what it was

Yes some details please, I'm having the same problem.

actually now i've reread it i'm convinced it was the temperature sensor as its always the bloody temperature sensor on the 1.4s :)

It was indeed the temperature sensor. The fiat guys called it 'morning' sensor.
Cost: 35euros for the part plus 38 euros for the work which was putting the car on the diagnostics, changing the sensor and doing some 'cleaning' on the intake.

Hello there!

38 Euros for installation? Any "strange" result from the Diagnostics?

They:
Put the car on diagnostics.
The diagnostics showed the faulty sensor which they changed.
They checked the throttle body. Found nothing wrong with it.
They charged 1 hour work ( which is the minimum ) thus 38 euros.

The problem has not occured since.

I thought they charged 38E just to plug the ECU to the diagnostic tool.. ;)

Yeap you're right, it's a good deal.
The garage is in Salonika? Because it is a long way from Patras just for a good garage :p :D
