Doing a tour of Europe the last few weeks on way home south Portugal the steering rack is leaking oil right hand side .Car Is 1998 Bravo sx 12v
I left Ireland and in France whirring sound started .Local scrap garage said low oil in steering and it should,nt need part .the oil went down and as time went the car demanded more and more oil. My friend the Local handy man / amateur Mechanic here in Portugal looked at found the gator was off and there was leak there .He zip tied the gator for me and i refilled with oil but it still leaks .
I cant get second hand parts as they do left hand drive in mainland Europe. The local cost to revamps the steering rack is €170 euros and upwards .
. I will try next week the stop leak does anybody know if that works with such high pressure from power steering .
I have seen online ebay similar the rhd part for €100 from UK or Ireland .
However i wondering if i can get just the seals and fix the part myself with my friend mechanic. í did some work for him so he doest mind fixxing the car for me free
The question is where can anybody get these seals .
The cars fuel consumption rarely more than 33 mpg doing 2000 kilometres to get back to ship add € 100 to fix this part inclined to dump car and fly back. ít would be pity its only 65,000 miles genuine but it eats parts new cluth after 30k due to bad clutch at manufacture two front brake disks at 35,000 with new pads and new tyres and heavy fuel consumption and now needs a new therostat
