Blue key 'keyring attachment' loop broken off

Hi all,

The part on my Bravo's blue key that loops around the ring on your key set (I hope you know what I mean!) was broken when I bought the car, so I cut the 'ring' portion of the fob off as it was redundant, but now want to sell the Bravo, so I was hoping to try and either (a) replace the key or (b) fix it. The car is not remotely controlled, so it doesn't have batteries in, etc, but I was wondering whether it has any other parts inside the solid plastic fob that are particular to the car, like recognition chips, immobilisers, etc. I thought that if not, I could just get a new key cut, but if it does have stuff 'inside' it, then is there any such thing as a 'sleeve' available, that slides over the fob, and provides someway for a key ring to fit to it?

You will need to have it cloned. They are programmed as they operate the Code immobiliser.

Thanks. I called Fiat and they wanted 40 for a replacement key. Does anyone know where I can get a cheap(er) cloned key?

Just drill a hole near the top of the key. Just dont go near the front of the key as that is where the transponer is.

I'd be a brave man if I were to take your advice on that premise! Where exactly should I drill the hole? If you can visualise the key, the end where the hole USED to be has been removed all the way down to the bottom of the original hole position, so it is completely flat.

Now, should I drill in a central position, or to the right or left (from the side of the key with the 'FIAT' stamp. Sorry to be so pernickety here, but the last thing I want to do is to bugger the only blue key I have!

Thanks.

I would suggest that you don't drill your key.

If you only have one key, then do get a clone cut. I would not like you to break the only key you have , on my say so.

Re: Blue key 'keyring attachment' loop broken off

I've attempted to apply devcon putty to the fob, and its drying at work overnight. Hopefully when I get to work in the morning I'll find a hardened moulded fob-end, and not some soggy mess over my desk !

I'll have to grind the putty down to shape and then drill a hole for the key ring. If the devcon falls off, I can always superglue it back on !

I'll let you know what transpires .

Re: Blue key 'keyring attachment' loop broken off

Well, I affixed the devcon putty, waited for it to dry overnight then sanded it on a flat bed sander. After drilling the hole and cleaning I painted it with blue paint (metallic - looks very nice!) and it is now drying overnight.

The finish is very good except where I caught a bit of the rubber at the join, but the paint will hide most of that. The important things are that it is a really strong bond and that the key still works!

Jobs a good'un!
